About this role
This is a hands-on programming role where you will use your software engineering skills daily to create amazing full-stack solutions that productionise AI and Insight-backed solutions gathered from the company’s vast data assets. As part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will be co-creating cloud-first software solutions embedding AI and other advanced technologies to deliver value for our customers and our business. You will design intuitive user-experiences, scalable and fault-tolerant applications, working closely with customers and stakeholders in an agile manner to meet expectations quickly and effectively. innovative world-class research, amazing people, and the freedom to learn and explore exciting new frontiers as you develop your career.
You’ll have the following responsibilities
You will use your excellent software design and programming skills across the full stack, to architect and build scalable, fault-tolerant, cloud-first applications that are exciting to use and easy to deploy.
You will contribute as a consultant to architecture, technology choices and solution design across the full software stack.
You will own specific areas of solutions and liaise with customers and stakeholders to collect and refine requirements.
You will support a collaborative, knowledge-rich environment by coaching and mentoring other team members and peers through code reviews and pair programming.
You will be laser-focussed on quality, promoting a culture of test-driven development, always seeking to leave code in a better place than you found it.
You will contribute to the running of the SCRUM process and other Agile ceremonies in rotation with the rest of the team.
You will be an enthusiastic and voracious learner, keeping up to date with the latest developments in the field and evaluating and recommending new technologies.
You will provide end user support for existing applications.
You will own problem identification and root cause analysis, to support decision-making.
You will supervise sub-contractors as appropriate.
You’ll have the following skills & experience
• Bachelor’s Degree in Software Engineering or Computer Science
• 3 years’ software development or programming experience
• Expert programming skills, with current practical experience in either JavaScript based front end frameworks (eg React, Angular) and/or Java based back end frameworks (ideally Spring).
• Experience of configuration management tools such as Git
• Working knowledge of SQL and database technologies
• Understanding of standard software development Design Patterns, particularly related to modern micro-service-based architectures
DESIRABLE
• Familiarity with User Interface/Experience Design patterns
• Experience of Mobile Application development
• An understanding of Docker, Kubernetes, infrastructure-as-code, and containerisation strategies
• An understanding of key AI concepts and techniques around optimisation and machine learning
• Linux Operating System familiarity
