About this role
The Cloud Communication Services unit design, build and maintain the UK and Global voice communication and collaboration services for BT.
BT has extensive experience in the UK inbound contact centre market, deploying services to over 55,000 customers and managing over 2 billion calls p.a. across our network. BT’s reputation with its customers is based on extensive capacity, robust architecture, and exceptional service reliability. In order to continue addressing our customers’ needs as voice call traffic increasingly migrates to an IP domain BT is looking for a replacement solution to our current TDM based Intelligent Network (IN) platform to sustain existing services in this new context and introduce new features, improving and adapting our products to meets market driven requirements to continue to delight our customers.
The current Common Intelligence Services Layer platform (CISL) CISL Platform is used for delivering Basic and Advanced Inbound Services – Number translation services products. new platform will be called as IN-VCS based on Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) will be provide Basic and Advanced Inbound Services.
SRE combines technical development and IT operations. We take applications and services through to live, breaking down silos and blurring the lines between traditional operations and development teams. This speeds up and automates the development pipeline.
The role holder will be responsible for ensuring system uptime in accordance with SLAs by building automation solutions which can be used in operations, maintenance, and incident scenarios, whilst working alongside developers to create new features, remove bugs and add value.
The role sits within the Voice Services and Applications Development team in Technology (Networks) and is based on design and development of voice applications. This involves the introduction of new applications, development of software services/solutions, and integrating third party vendors’ products.
You’ll have the following responsibilities
You’ll be:
• Using full ITIL framework along with internal and external expertise to identify and resolve complex issues, ensuring the best application performance and customer experience.
• Supporting the development and delivery of platform technology upgrades.
• Taking services to live, acting as quality gate check for the applications.
• Configuring, developing, and automating our ticketing system, monitoring alarms and data feeds to deliver data driven monitoring and decision making.
• Providing support to 1st and 2nd line technical teams, whilst interacting with developers and other stakeholders to resolve complex issues and prevent reoccurrence.
• Using scripting skills to automate regular and repetitive tasks to streamline our processes and operational experience.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory and security standards as deemed necessary.
You’ll have the following skills & experience
Essential
Involved in deploy/manage/operate of medium to large scale production systems
Hands on working experience on VMware vSphere ESXi and Vcenter Administration
Sound knowledge of SIP and SS7 Protocol stack
Familiar to CI/CD concepts and software version control
Experience working with Docker
Experience of infrastructure and configuration management automation e.g., Ansible/Puppet
Experience of setting up component logging and configuring monitoring tools – e.g., Prometheus, Filebeat, Metricbeat, Logstash etc.
Experience in developing scripting, e.g., Python, Shell, Perl etc. for automation of routine jobs
Software debugging and tuning experience
Acquainted to working with Cisco UCS Rack servers
Sound communication and interpersonal skills
Desirable
Computing related degree or equivalent experience
Telephony/SIP application development
Experience working with REST APIs and load balancers
Experience of working with database technologies RDBMS, NoSQL & key-value database technologies (Redis, PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch etc.)
