The Centre of Excellence for Road Safety (CoERS) at IIT Madras is an ecosystem for bringing the best practices of road safety to the Country and in establishing leadership at the trijunction of academia, industry, and the Government. The Centre will function as a think tank for the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) in bringing together the best practices in road safety, developing systems and provide data-driven advisory for all stakeholders and the public.

Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role for a Road Safety Auditor (Team Lead) at the Centre of Excellence for Road Safety (CoERS) located at IIT Madras, Chennai. As the Team Lead, you will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating the road safety auditing activities. This includes conducting road safety audits, analyzing road safety data, identifying potential hazards, and recommending measures to improve road safety. You will collaborate with a team of auditors and work closely with government agencies, transportation authorities, and other stakeholders to ensure the implementation of road safety measures.

• Knowledge of road safety principles and methods, ability to apply road safety standards and guidelines, the capacity to collect, analyse, and interpret data on road characteristics, traffic volumes, crash patterns, and user behaviour. 
• Capability to lead the team to conduct on-field surveys, Road Assessment Safety Audits, and Blackspot Analyses across various states. 
• Aptitude for enhancing assessment and audit methodologies based on field visits and stakeholder feedback. 
• Capability to provide advice and creatively resolve emerging problems and research gaps.  
• Ability to integrate comprehensive approach to Road Safety using 5E Model with Human Factor approach. 
• Open-mindedness and respect for diverse cultures 
• Experience in training stakeholders across various parameters. 
• Ability to monitor progress and compile project status reports. 

Eligibility Criteria: 

• 5+ years of experience as a Road Safety Auditor, Highway/Highway Design Engineer, Transportation Engineer or in a relevant field. 
• Bachelor’s/Master’s/PhD/Postdoc in Civil/Transportation Engineering. 
• Proven experience in road engineering, particularly in road audits/design, is preferred. 
• Proficiency in design and visualization software used in road engineering. 
• Preferably registered/certified Road Safety Auditor from premier institutions  
• Strong project management and supervision skills. Along with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
