Job Overview:
Responsible for the operation of the engine room and any maintenance of machinery, which may include but is not limited to, engines, boilers, deck machinery, electrical sanitary and refrigeration equipment, onboard a vessel.
This position is unaccompanied; and a Bachelor’s Quarter (BQ) will be provided.
Responsibilities:Essential Duties & Job Functions:
Work closely with the vessel Captain, to ensure the physical aspect of the vessel is completely under control.
Ensure all the vessel’s machinery and equipment are working in an efficient manner in order to support safe navigation of the ship.
Monitor the overall operation of the engineering department ensuring performance efficiency, and everyone’s strict compliance with the safety standards and regulatory procedures.
Oversee the performance of general marine vessel maintenance or repair work, such as repairing leaks, finishing interiors, refueling, or maintaining decks by efficiently managing the distribution of tasks to the crew.
Monitor engine, machinery, or equipment indicators when vessels are underway, and reports abnormalities to appropriate shipboard staff.
Maintain complete records of engineering department activities, including machine operations.
Oversee the installation of engine controls, propeller shafts, or propellors.
Responsible for the maintenance and repair of all fixed and portable fire-fighting equipment.
Accurately maintain inventory for any spare parts, extra fuel, and oil.
Determine the volume of oil, fuel and lube required for each voyage and ensure required quantities of each are on board.
Perform regular equipment testing and troubleshooting procedures.
Monitor the availability, use or condition of lifesaving equipment or pollution preventatives to ensure that international regulations are followed.
Perform and/or participates in emergency drills.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:Mandatory:
Minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience.
Must have knowledge of seafaring skills.
Transportation Worker Identification Credentials (TWIC).
USCG Approved First Aid/CPR Certification.
Ability to successfully pass any background checks, pre-employment physical requirements and drug testing required by the contract.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. passport.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance, which includes U.S. Citizenship or U.S. naturalization.
Valid U.S. Driver’s License required.
Proof of COVID-19 VACCINATION:
In order to qualify for this position, you must be fully vaccinated prior to the start of your assignment and show proof of your vaccination status, unless you are legally entitled to an accommodation (religious or medical).
The definition of fully vaccinated is that you have:
1.) Received a vaccine that is recognized by the governing entity and is either a.) Two doses of Pfizer BioNTech Vaccine b.) Two doses of AstraZeneca/Oxford Vaccine c.) Two doses of Moderna Vaccine (or) d. One dose of Johnson & Johnson Vaccine; and
2.) Two weeks elapsed after the final dose was administered, which is either one or two doses depending on brand of the vaccination.
