Job Details:
Job Summary:
This role is responsible for using a variety of tools to maintain and technically support complex and multi-platform systems/databases. This includes performance tuning of production databases, designing new database structures, data migration, initial database configuration and operational support of live systems

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Providing database management support on an on-call basis for all Cubic business system databases (BSD’s) from Oracle 9i to 19c including 10g on Sun Solaris and other platforms.

Maintenance of production and development test environments including database refresh, upgrade, and migration activities.

Helps define and enforce database object development standards.

Operates in accordance with procedures and documentation for recurring database administration tasks to ISO 9001 standard.

Supports capacity planning and proactive monitoring on all BSD’s including predicting future Oracle trends for hardware usage and user load.

Maintaining configuration management control over vendor supplied and Cubic developed database components.

Assists with coordination between Systems Integration, Business Applications Development, and software vendors in support of database and application development activities.

Participation in software installations, coordinating with the Systems Integration and Business Applications Development groups.

May assist in implementing database access controls, taking into account: security, efficiency, integrity, ownership and redundancy concerns.

Ensures availability and performance of the BSD’s, including Performance Tuning all Oracle instance components including SQL and PL/SQL.

Responsible for problem escalation via functional leads to Oracle My Support and third parties as appropriate.

Participates in the implementation and release of database changes as submitted by the development and project teams and implementation of changes using Change Control Process.

In addition to the duties and responsibilities listed, the job holder is required to perform other duties assigned by their manager from time-to-time, as may be reasonably required of them.

Minimum Job Requirements:
Some experience of other databases, specifically MS Sql server, Postgres and MySql.

Familiarity with Ms Windows and Linux OS and competent in their use.

Familiarity with Cloud based solutions, both MS Azure and Amazon AWS

Previous experience in supporting 24×7 Operations an advantage

Ability to work in a 24/7 on-call rotation if required

Logical and detailed in approach

Eager to learn with a keen interest in technology in a fast paced environment

A keen sense of teamwork and responsibility ownership
