RELX is seeking an experienced government affairs professional to join its global government affairs team. The position is based in Gurgaon, reporting to the Head of Government Affairs, India, and working in close liaison with RELX’s business units.
The role will support RELX’s understanding of and response to public policy challenges and opportunities, and will help to shape positive policy and legislative outcomes.
Key issues covered will include intellectual property, privacy and data protection, health policy, science and innovation policy, open access policy, digital/AI policies, and internet regulation.

About the team:
RELX’s global government affairs team is a strategic, centralized organization whose mission is to serve as the ambassadors for RELX, working to advance the company’s public policy goals and support RELX’s diverse businesses, including their business development initiatives. RELX’s businesses include Elsevier, LexisNexis Risk Solutions, LexisNexis Legal and Professional, and Reed Exhibitions.
Position responsibilities and deliverables:
Identifying, monitoring and influencing business critical political and policy developments at Union- and State-level;
Analysing policy issues, and working closely with legal and strategy functions and the relevant business units to assess likely impact on RELX;
Helping to build RELX’s profile by participating in relevant government/ industry advisory groups, think tanks, trade associations, and other forums as appropriate, and ensuring RELX is perceived to be an active participant in policy debates affecting the company;
Assisting with the development of high-quality written submissions to government departments, parliamentary committees, regulators and other relevant bodies;
Maintaining key relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders and assisting with the communication and education of policy issues and positions to internal RELX community;
Without needing specific IP policy expertise, the post holder must have an appreciation for and enthusiastically espouse the importance of strong IP protection to the business.
Candidate experience and credentials:
6-10 years of related work experience;
A clear understanding of the intersection of business and government and experience in navigating political processes and parliamentary systems to advance an advocacy agenda;
A strong interest in and understanding of the way public policy is made at Union- and State-level, and previous experience working with policy makers and institutions;
Excellent academic credentials. A law degree would be useful but is not a prerequisite, but the ability to analyse and interpret legislative and judicial language is essential;
A strong interest and background in at least one major area of policy interest to RELX (e.g. science policy, health policy, IP, data, technology and AI).

A professional network within government and experience of working with trade associations and coalitions is desirable.
