Job Description
The Global Network Performance Management Team is a highly skilled, diverse team in AP and NA and responsible to deliver, maintain and administer network performance solutions for ITO.
The network performance portfolio and toolset, consisting of Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) software, vendor systems, dedicated network devices and custom-developed automation tools, includes following elements and functionalities:
IBM SevOne – Network performance data collection, graphing, thresholding and reporting for the Ford Global Network. Network topology visualization combined with performance graphs.
Cisco ThousandEyes – Provides hop-by-hop analysis and synthetic testing to determine latency, jitter and packet loss.
IPSLA Manager (custom) – Management tool to configure protocol tests utilizing the Cisco IOS IP SLA feature.
Shadow Routers – Dedicated measurement devices located in each major telecom hub, ECC and FMC enterprise data center.
Responsibilities
Customize network management systems to automate monitoring processes and procedures; including but not limited to: dashboards, test set-up, and custom customer requirements.
Cross-functional cooperation with Network Engineering, Network Planning, Network Operations and other IT teams to improve and enhance the design of Network Performance Mgt. monitoring solutions by addressing new technologies and platforms in combination with standard management protocols (e.g. SNMP, Netflow) and domain-specific (e.g. SQL, HTML) as well as general-purpose languages (PHP mainly).
Provide NMS support and hold regular seminars to train Network Operations L1 and L2 staff as well as Network Performance Management users including management.
Troubleshooting, patching, upgrading of Network Performance Mgt. systems.
Provide Network Performance Mgt. support for the Ford Global Network. Support Network Operations, application owners and special events including performance analysis and additional data processing.
Be willing to be on call for operational incidents as needed.
Understand security & control processes (ITPM, ACR & SCRP, MCRP, GRC) and work with a security and audit mindset.
Backup to control and maintain / administer Network Perf. Mgt. system configurations with regard to network changes (CRQ’s) and customer requests (ART)
Maintain current knowledge of industry trends and potential impact on Network Monitoring Tools
Knowledge of log analytics tools to create queries and dashboards in tools such as LogScale, Splunk, and improve LogScale’s monitoring, observability, and MTTR
Develop customer facing tooling written in Go (LogScale Kubernetes Operator, LogScale CLI)
Knowledge of SLIs and SLOs to ensure availability and performance.
Working understanding of cloud-based networking concerns such as load balancers and VPCs on AWS, Azure, or GCP.
Qualifications
Essential skills & experiences required:
Bachelor in a related technical field, preferable in Information Technologies, or other equivalent qualification
Good communication skills, fluent in English, written and verbal.
Capability to build and maintain good relationships, work efficiently in a global team.
Continuous improvement philosophy and practice
Experience in working with Network Performance Mgt. tools, components and protocols including Cisco IPSLA, , RRDtool, MySQL/MariaDB, SNMP, ICMP, TCP/IP, UDP, DNS, FTP, HTTP, Netflow and custom scripting
Strong SNMP knowledge and MIB analysis experience
Knowledge of Telco circuit testing and monitoring
Hands-on admin experience with enterprise fault management systems. IBM Netcool highly-desirable; but other product experience will be accepted (i.e., HP, BMC)
Self-starter with high degree of motivation and ability to learn new subjects quickly
Strong mathematical and analytics skills as applied to complex network performance designs, analysis, extensions and troubleshooting
Experience in managing very large data sets as well as I/O intensive applications recommended
Good development skills in PHP. Familiar with JS, jQuery, HTML and SQL
Understanding of Project Management Methodologies / Principles like Agile Development, Waterfall Method etc.
In addition to the essential skills, the following will be considered as added advantages:
CCNA certification, or equivalent experience.
Broad technical and working knowledge with network devices, primarily Cisco routers and switches in LAN, WAN, Extranet and Data Center environments
Knowledge of event management, database structures and SQL, network management principles. Optical network knowledge desirable but not required – Netcool Impact, Netcool Omnibus, Netcool Impact, IBM Tivoli Network Manager, Scripting (i.e., Perl, sh), P/SQL, and Netcool OQL
Server administration experience (Windows, Linux and Apache)
Process driven, able to produce high quality and accurate work
ITIL process and operational experience in a large enterprise (i.e., Incident, Problem, Config, Change)
