JOB PURPOSE

• Carry out scheduled maintenance and repairs on the rail grinder fleet.

• Maximise machine availability.

• To drive, operate and maintain Switch Rail Grinding Machine/Metro Grinder as required.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

• Report any defects found on the machine & carry out repairs within the required competency level for the role, as directed.

• Undertake maintenance activities in accordance with the Vehicle Maintenance Instructions / Maintenance Manual

• Assist Grinder Technician with required tasks.

• To carry out planned maintenance duties in line with company policies & procedures & work instructions.

• Ensure the working environment is maintained as required.

• Inform the supervisor of any issues/problems in a timely manner, which are outside your remit of control.

• Operate the machine for maintenance purposes.

• Ensure regularly updated & compliant with company policies & procedures.

• Awareness of company communication, i.e. e-mails, etc.

• Be responsible for the care of company assets in the individual’s possession.

• To undertake training as required.

• Ensure compliance with competence assessment systems.

• Liaise with customers and contractors as required

• Make sure method statements and risk assessments are applied

• Update and carry out risk assessments as required

• Maintain regular contact with the Railway representative

• Maintain regular contact with the Machine manager

• Maintain regular communication with team members

• Work to the roster as required

• Provide reports/information as required by the machine manager

• Comply with all statutory and company policies and procedures

• To undertake training as required

• To ensure all machine defects are reported and rectified

• To operate Switch Rail Grinding Machine/ Metro Grinder in line with procedures

• Complete all necessary documentation

• Ensure the machine is maintained to the maintenance schedule

• To communicate with the safety rep of the Client

• To learn and maintain routes as identified by the Machine Manager

• Manage machine stock levels

• Flexible to work on other machines

• Work away from home as required

*Qualifications & Managerial Experience *

• Professional Qualifications needed to enable key activities to be achieved.

• Hydraulic, Electrical, Pneumatic, Mechanical, Calibration, Fault Finding, Machine Computers, Engines

Qualification for Machine Supervisor

• Mechanical / Electronics/ Electrical Engineer from a recognized university.

• Basic knowledge & understanding of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems & ability to work under instruction.

• Good knowledge of track geometry and parameters

• IT literate including basic knowledge of Microsoft systems.

• Calibration & understanding of railway operating systems.
