ICRISAT seeks applications from dynamic Indian Nationals for the position of ‘Scientific Officer — Pearl Millet Breeding’ in Crop Improvement, Asia Program at ICRISAT-Patancheru. The position is responsible for supporting the conductance of Pearl Millet HarvestPlus Asia and Project partner’s trials, pearl millet main streaming activities, data analysis work and preparation of project reports under the supervision and guidance of Principal Scientist-Pearl Millet Breeding, Asia. • Monitoring of nutritional and grain yield traits in regular breeding pipeline
• Involve in standardization of protocol for Rapid-Gen facility for advancement of pearl millet hybrid parental lines
• Involve in implementation of QC in breeding pipeline.
• Assist in selection of breeding materials, seed production and constitution of HarvestPlus trials for multi-location testing
• Assist in monitoring of project trials and strategic trials at out locations
• Monitoring of Fe/Zn in the selected lines to supply seed material selected during Scientist’s Field Day
• Assist in integration of pathology screening facility for identification of resistant sources in pearl millet breeding material
• Data analysis and draft preparation of combining ability of biofortified female lines.
• Assist in annual work plan development and preparation of mid-term and annual reports of partnership HarvestPlus projects.
• Assist in migration of pearl millet breeding data from HQ and partner sites, location info and pedigree to BMS platform.
• Ensures the execution of breeding experiments as per the agreed plans and schedules.
• Identifies and resolves quality issues in developing new products as per the agreed product profiles.

Requirements:

• M.Sc. in Plant Breeding and Genetics from a reputed university with sound academic record.
• About 2 to 3 years working experience in breeding techniques and its operations.
• Experience on Pearl millet crop improvement research will be preferred.
• Knowledge on Crop and nutrient management will be an added advantage
• Publications in peer-reviewed journals
• Sound knowledge of computer programs
