Role purpose:
The Routing Advisor contributes to the routing process as required on a shift basis, 24/7/365. Provides adequate decision making, and assistance with route planning and voyage optimization and weather routing within customer contracted time requirements. Participates in training of vessel operators with Jeppesen products.
Key Responsibilities:

• Provides for computerized passage plans weather updates, and advisory on customer requests. Communicates with captains, owners, charterers and other involved personnel to seek, identify and track specific passage requirements (e.g., where passage will occur, passage plan needs, safety check, opportunities for efficiency gains, etc). Provides periodic advisory to ships in transit with emphasis on safe operation.
• Uses online tools and resources to gather information on current weather conditions, planned passage routes, hazardous conditions and other passage information related to safety of navigation. Prepares information for delivery to the vessel captain and shore side marine superintendents as required, via email and phone.
• Periodically monitors the 24/7 customer service routing phone line on a rotational basis.
• Training of personnel with regard to company products either in person or remotely via the web.
• Contributes to the success of the team through consistent and professional work ethic, collaboration and input to process improvement

Technical / Professional Qualifications / Requirements:
Education/Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study and typically 15 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience sailing as a licensed Master on vessels greater than 10,000 tons making trans ocean voyages.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Good knowledge on oceanography and marine meteorology. Greater experience in this area can offset some of the above marine qualification requirements.
• Good English communication skill with the willingness and ability to pass on to client/customers the passage planners knowledge in both routine communications as well as formal and informal training programs.
• Possesses strong written English communication skills to effectively communicate passage plans, weather updates and routes via email.
• Strong computer skills with good technical ability.
• Makes decisions that affect the financial, employee, or public relations posture of the company. Erroneous decisions or recommendations may result in failure to achieve goals critical to the major objectives of the company and impact customer relationships.

• Develops solutions to problems of unusual complexity that require a high degree of ingenuity, creativity, and innovation. Develops solutions to unique challenges that may serve as precedent for future decisions.

Discretion:

• Initiates assignments under consultative direction toward long-range goals and objectives.

Liaison:

• Serves as prime consultant and external spokesperson for the company on highly significant matters relating to policies, programs, capabilities, and long-range goals and objectives.
