applications and developers at this scale is massive, with the WEST team being at the heart of this challenging problem space. We’re a critical partner to large teams such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint – delivering shared solutions in infrastructure, services, engineering efficiency, web development, and collaboration.

We’re looking for a motivated engineering manager to drive improvements in agility across Office. Our partners need to ship code quickly, but this involves numerous systems with a lot of moving parts which can fail. Innovations are needed in tooling, processes, and automation in order to really move the needle here – so you should bring a passion for these systems along with a sincere desire to improve efficiency and help developers.

Your impact here will directly improve our velocity bringing features to customers, as well as reduce engineering fatigue across the entire Office web ecosystem.

Responsibilities

• Manage a group of engineers focused on improving agility

• Partner with Office teams to identify pain points and plan solutions

• Identify velocity gaps in tooling and processes across a broad set of engineering systems

• Partner with engineering teams to push requirements and consume deliverables

• Land improvements across a multitude of velocity metrics

• Foster a culture of innovation and customer focus within the team

• Bring clarity to an ambiguous space spanning multiple teams and engineering systems

• Lead by example high level of technical excellence in design, code, and test reviews.

• Model our core values and be a mentor, coach and advisor to engineers on the team

Qualifications

• BS degree in computer science, engineering, or equivalent degree.

• 10+ years of software development experience with C#, C, C++ or Java.

• 5+ years of experience in cloud and related technologies.

• Proven track record as an engineering leader: managing and growing successful teams, keeping members energized

• Excellent communication skills and cross group collaboration.

• The ability to drive vision, planning, prioritization, and execution activities.

• Experience with Office 365 and services is preferred.

• Proficiency with modern software engineering tools including Git is preferred
