Innovation & Automation CoE
The Morgan Stanley Labs Team is an (SRE) Site Reliability Engineering team, responsible for the availability, performance, efficiency, change management, monitoring, support and capacity planning of Morgan Stanley Labs. Labs include a significant on-premises data center in NY, as well as large footprint in public cloud, known as the Innovation Lab, governing thousands of assets and resources of a wide variety such as desktops, servers, and network appliances etc., used by almost every group within Moran Stanley Technology. The team performs rapid, safe, evaluation of technology, and is responsible for the strategy, standards and operations of Morgan Stanley’s technology labs globally, providing critical services for all phases of the technology lifecycle, from initial research through to production problem post-mortems and investigations. This work also covers all technologies and all of our lines of business, from low latency trading to cloud, AI/ML, data, mobile applications, etc. Each team member in Labs is responsible for Operational Support of Lab users L1, L2 and L3 for Windows, UNIX, Networking and storage issues.
Job Profile
A hands-on technical DevOps Release Management Lead. Candidate will be responsible for the management of the end to end release process for several core systems within the HR data distribution space. This includes release planning, execution of the test cycle and ultimately the deployment to the production environment.
Throughout the process, you will need to communicate accurate status to a variety of stakeholders including managers within the IT and Business areas. If issues arise you will be expected to help debug & resolve or escalate appropriately. You will be communicating the release notes to the business and they will expect timely delivery of the actual production release.
As the guardian for the release process, you will be the face-off to the development team. You will need to manage the release candidate which is likely to include new features, bug fixes, patches and similar requests. Where you and your team detect problems within a release candidate, it will be your responsibility to help identify the causing JIRA and work with the relevant development team to resolve. You will also need to work closely with developers on how a feature needs to be rolled out and, of course, how it might be rolled-back if an issue is seen.
The role will require the day to day management code and deployment in all environments. This might include improving our current framework, or even re-architecting parts of our test and deployment process.
Candidate is likely to have come from a software development background. However, you will have had recent proven experience in a testing / release / devops / automation role. You might be entirely hands-on today developing test and release tooling;
The role requires someone who is flexible, able to respond to a dynamic business environment and able to take ownership and responsibility for the delivery deadlines. The candidate should possess good analytical skills, good software engineering skills, a logical approach to problem solving, be able to work in a fast paced environment liaising with demanding stakeholders to understand complex requirements, have experience in complex data domains and be able to prioritise under pressure with minimal supervision.
The production deployment activities will require some weekend work.
Skill Set
Skills Required:- A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
– 5 years working as a hands-on developer in Information Technology or related field.
– 3 years of relevant experience
– A thorough understanding of the software development lifecycle
– A solid understanding of the Release Management process including release automation
– Foundations in server-side Java running on Linux Strong foundation in RESTful design practices
– Knowledge on Open API Specification
Skills Desired:
– RDBMS Sybase and/or DB2, with ability to write simple SQL queries
– Knowledge on working with data in JSON format and/or NoSQL databases. MongoDB preferred.
– Knowledge on in API Testing, Git and build tools like Gradle
– Scheduling tools like Autosy etc
– Agile software development experience, preferably Scrum
– Experience with various authentication methods such as SPNEGO, Siteminder, Kerberos, and LDAP

• 10 yrs of experience in a related field
