Job Location: Lagos, Nigeria

Role brief

• The primary responsibility of the person would be to conceptualize, operationalize and scale up aquaculture projects which would grow the Aquaculture sector in Nigeria & therefore the Aqua Feed business of OLAM.
• This role involves optimizing existing systems, designing & implementing new improvements that help optimize various stages of the Catfish Value chain in Nigeria. Thus, developing aquaculture systems, ensuring sustainable practices, enhancing production efficiency and improve fish farming practices in Nigeria.
• The role will require collaborating with various internal & external stakeholders, including government agencies, research institutions and fish farmers, in order to lead key aquaculture developmental projects.
• The role will lead the Aqua Category team and also work with Aqua Technical Executives, Sales, Nutrition & other Cross-functional teams towards driving this key identified Aqua culture projects.
• The role will be based in Lagos, Nigeria. It will entail travel across the country depending upon the identified projects.

Expected Key Results

Project Management

• Lead and manage aquaculture projects in a time bound manner.
• Plan, execute, and monitor aquaculture development projects from conception to completion ensuring alignment with project goals, timelines, and budget constraints.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams to oversee project implementation, resource allocation and risk mitigation strategies.
• Monitor project progress, identify challenges, and implement corrective actions to ensure successful project completion.

Research and Development

• Build Olam capability for both in-house research (particularly wrt feed trials & best practices validation). As well build external capability (e.g catfish genetics) where there are limited in-house capabilities.
• Develop Ilorin as a Center of Excellence for fish farming in the country.
• To develop intensive method for large scale cultivation of Catfish in a cost-effective model
• To help train local youth in Aqua culture and equip them with infrastructure to start farming through a self-sustainable model
• To create a self-funding & sustainable model for scale up of the project
• Certification programs for Hatcheries / Nurseries.

Training and Capacity Building

• Create Best in class SOPs for Catfish farming across different farming systems in Nigeria.
• Develop and deliver training programs for farmers to enhance technical skills, promote safety measures, and ensure compliance with industry standards.
• Work with ATE teams towards rollout & implementation of the Technical modules.
• Train and manage a team of Aqua Technical Executives (ATE), providing guidance and support to ensure their success.
• Foster knowledge sharing and mentoring within the team.

Data Management and Reporting

• Collect, analyze, and report data related to aquaculture production and environmental impact.
• Establish systems for data collection, analysis, and reporting to monitor project performance, track key metrics, and evaluate outcomes.
• Prepare technical reports, presentations, and recommendations for senior management, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies based on data insights and project evaluations.

Digital Innovation

• Leverage technology to drive efficiency across Catfish Value chain starting from Farm productivity to Sales to Post Harvest loss minimization.

• Should have planned & operationalized large scale farming projects (Catfish/Tilapia)
• Should be able to influence both internal & external stakeholders to create buy-in for projects
• Good communication & influencing skills

Educational Level

• Master’s degree preferably in Aquaculture/Animal husbandry, fisheries or related fields.

Working Experience

• At-least 8 to 10 years of work experience with minimum 3-5 yrs. leading Aqua farming Projects or working in Aqua culture development agencies with strong project delivery record.
