The Technology team @ Oportun is dedicated to this mission which we enable by creating, delivering, and maintaining elegant, intuitive, and performant systems to support the needs of our customers and business partners.

• Work with other engineers to develop and test tools and applications used by team on daily basis

• Play a significant role in the ongoing evolution and refinement of current tools and applications

• Collaborate with cross functional teams which requires strong presentation skills and attention to details, strong data orientation, troubleshooting skills

• Strong logical & analytical concepts in databases, schemas, dimensional modelling

• Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.

• Very good written and verbal communication skills

• Work closely with key stakeholders to initiate corrective action and meet business and regulatory requirements.

• Triage, investigate, escalate and provide resolution to production issues.

• Reproduce, document and escalate product defects to the Engineering Team that need immediate attention.

• Experience with Agile Methodologies, Strong rigor in automating repetitive tasks

• Flexibility to adjust to multiple demands, shifting priorities, ambiguity and rapid change

• Problem solving and multi-tasking ability in a fast-paced, globally distributed environment

• Experience in building Micro services and rest endpoint development

• Good to have: Experience in Machine Learning technologies (i.e. forecasting, clustering, statistical significance test, predictive modelling, and text mining)

• Ability to learn new technologies and processes and quickly apply them to the overall development effort

• Self-motivated engineer with intellectual curiosity and a strong go-getter attitude with passion and energy to implement quality technical solutions.

• BA/BS degree in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent work experience. MS degree is preferred.

• 9+ years development experience in JAVA (using OO Design and Analysis, Design Patterns, etc.)

• High experience in Java 8 Required.

• 4+ years’ experience building highly scalable, distributed and reliable Restful Web Services using Spring, Jersey, etc.

• Should have knowledge on Cloud applications preferably on AWS.

• Knowledge on building Front end applications using JavaScript, AngularJS, HTML5, CSS3.

• Experience with relational DBs like MySQL and NoSQL Database like MongoDB, Solr/Lucene will be a plus.

• Experience with Tomcat, Jax-RS, REST, JPA, IntelliJ, Groovy, Hibernate is must.

• Experience with build technologies like Gradle, Jenkins will be a plus.

• Experience with Test Driven Development using TestNG/Junit testing frameworks.

• Experience working with version control like GIT.

• 4+ years’ experience using SQL, including complex queries and optimized queries from multiple data sources

• Basic understanding of scripting languages (R, Python, etc.). Ability to write scripts and programs for automation, tools, alerting mechanism.
