Job Description Summary: What you need to know about the role: The Technical Duty Officer (TDO) first responsibility is handling critical escalations in the Command Center. They are responsible for any and all major incident tickets, driving them to resolution. They are the primary leader in coordinating the efforts of the Command Center and our external partners through our incident management process to ensure command and control of any major incident. ***Please note this position is a 12hrs/day shift-based role for second half of the calendar week.*** Shift hours are 6:30am-6:30pm IST and the work week will be: -Alternating Wednesdays and Thursdays through Saturday or -Sunday through Tuesday and alternating Wednesdays

As the Incident Commander of site operations, you act as the final authority in ensuring that the containment of impact is mitigated as quickly as possible. You will need to incorporate a customer centric risk-based approach to the job, and all the decisions you make are weighed. The need to understand and evaluate the risks of not only performing an action but also those from not performing an action before taking any course is essential making a decisive decision.
Your day to day:
Proactively observe and detect the systems of systems as the last line of defense for potential site issues and takes initiative to address them by directly executing mitigation actions to contain the impact, else engaging with global cross functional teams with increased urgency.
The SRE, Incident Command is also responsible for providing concise communications of events, both verbally and written. They need to ensure that incident documentation is complete and can be used for executive briefings as well as the starting point for the problem management process.
Coordinate the activities of and provides leadership to others, particularly Command Center staff, Site Reliability Engineering, Production Engineering and Change Management as well as cross functional teams.
Serve as a champion of the incident management program through engagement with PayPal functional incident teams to ensure processes and policies are being followed and by providing best practices, guidance, and consultation about the program.
Engage in incident preparedness activities through the Resiliency program.
Document incident information in incident management system and ensure data is quality, accurate, and complete. Doing so will help you identify incident and data trends (including gaps and inaccuracies) through normal course of incident management.
What you need to bring:
2+ years’ experience with Major Incident Management, Program Management or related Incident Command processes.
Confident and can immediately step into a leadership role, demand the respect of an experienced staff while commanding site operations.
Ability to multitask concurrent task and track complex situations while keeping tracks prioritized based on business impact and calculated risk.
Unafraid to take the lead, who understands the importance of process as a means for defining good business practices, rather than as an excuse to avoid ownership and responsibility.
Comfortable using Linux command line.
Preferred Skills
Familiarity with business technologies like ServiceNow, Oracle Database, Load Balancer methodologies, Slack, Splunk, Datadog, ThousandEyes, Logic Monitor preferred
Familiarity with infrastructure/cloud technologies (GCP, AWS).
Familiarity with all domain technologies to handle any routine task or issue that may occur in day-to-day activities.
Organized and detailed mind that is as capable of considering the big picture as it is delving into the gritty specifics that define day-to-day troubleshooting.
