Associate Researcher

Emerging Technologies is a Centre of Excellence (CoE) with differentiated research and lab capabilities for the generation, evaluation and development of new technological concepts in a variety of areas of relevance to Shell. ET is a key enabler for filling the R&D funnel and progressing most promising ideas through the funnel. In addition, it is the home for building new in-house capabilities and collaborating with external partners to mature technology options that enable Shell to thrive through the Energy Transition. Research programs include Decarbonisation & Circularity in support of long term energy transition commitments. Focus areas of research include Methane conversions, Dense Energy Carriers like H2 through electrolysis, CO2 capture, CO2 conversions, Advanced Energy Storage and Electrification.

The electrolysis theme focusses on generating innovations in support of the Hydrogen business and electrochemical conversions for value added products. The capabilities focus on electrochemical method development, its application and scale-up. Workstreams vary from investigating fundamental aspects of electron transfer at electrocatalyst interfaces to ion transport through membrane and testing the latest commercial technologies in this new area.

Key activities and responsibilities:

• Ensure safe operation of electrochemical methods.

• Support the planning of experiments and be responsible for their safe execution.

• Analyse and present experimental results.

• Draft Reports with minimum guidance from project lead.

• Engage with the site design team for management of change

• Troubleshoot any unit operation issues.

• As unit owner engage with support services (C&P, RtP, HSSE, Site) for efficient operation.

• Engage with suppliers/equipment manufacturers for fast and reliable service.

Dimensions

The position is based in Bangalore and reports directly to the Team Lead Emerging Technologies. As the Associate Researcher Gas Processing you work closely with the Gas Processing Centre of Expertise (CoE) portfolio in maturing GP opportunities in Shell.

Skills & Requirements

• Education at post-graduate in Chemistry or Bachelor level in chemical engineering

• Passion to learn new technical skills

• Action oriented project execution

• Action oriented closure of administrative tasks (C&P, RE, RtP)

• Independently solve problems and troubleshoot
