The Senior Solution Architect for Deal Making & Geomatics exhibits a product mindset and a deep understanding of technology, with a good balance between problem-solving and logical thinking mindsets, while maintaining a delivery focus. They are the single point of architecture accountability to Business IDT and have end-to-end accountability for strategy and delivery of products (lines)/projects within their remit.

This position is the A&D connection to two portfolios: Acquisitions and Divestments (“Deal Making”) and Geomatics, a technical discipline built around location intelligence and mapping. This duality presents a unique opportunity to gain insights across a broad scope of Shell business. This scope requires the marshalling of appropriate resources and actions and integrated delivery with the many product lines from across the organization, such as Subsurface & Wells, Projects & Technology to the various functions related to deal making including Finance and Legal. The architect will deliver solution architectures according to a well-orchestrated and prioritized demand backlog.

Accountabilities

• Architecture delivery for a given focus area – project or product within Deal Making or Geomatics

• Solution architecture development, consultancy and assurance to one or more product and project teams, making sure applications are well architected and conform to Shell standards and architecture principles.

• Point of call for all architecture aspects of an IDT product / project

• Be accountable for the end-to-end architecture of the product being developed and implemented by being engaged in a sticky mode throughout the significant part of product lifecycle. In case of a projects be accountable till the successful deployment and hyper care of the solution.

• An active role in documenting, improving & maintaining the reference models in architecture repositories like Bizz Design, Power Designer, lifting project deliverables to the conceptual and logical levels.

• Identify architecturally relevant items i.e. enablers in product backlog and product line architecture vision.

• Work with business product owners and IDT stakeholders to prioritize and commit enablers in the backlog. Decompose large enablers i.e., epics into features which can be fit into an agile iteration.

• Address and integrate the Business Process, Data, Application, Technical and Information Security aspects associated with enablers.

• Ensure solution architecture is documented using the relevant templates, tooling and confirms to Shell standards.

• Review and accept the low-level designs generated by engineering and SRE member of the product/project teams.

• Make decisions for architecturally significant design choices by thorough analysis of tradeoffs and incorporating stakeholder concerns and enterprise standards.

• Identify and prioritize non-functional requirements which need to be handled and provide design for implementing them.

• Identify architecture risks, issues and gaps with an IT solution and work towards resolving or mitigating them.

• Work with business analysts, data analysts, and business SME’s to determine the data scope by understanding the business data requirements driving the solution.

• Ensure that physical data models created by engineering teams meet all functional requirements. Provide input on non-functional aspects such as sizing, performance and scalability.

• Work with the business to determine and document the applicable data quality standards that the data used in the solution needs to adhere to.

• Ensure all applicable data policies (segregation of duties, business controls, data access controls, legislation, data privacy etc.) are understood and adhered to. Proactively design to meet these requirements.

• Assess data sources and their suitability for the solution. This includes profiling data to infer and communicate pertinent facts about users, systems and data quality from the data sets.

• Design the end-to-end solution data flows sourcing data from architecturally approved sources (masters) and highlighting any gaps.

• Define fit for purpose integrations between systems. Identify key characteristics of the integration, integration domain, integration use case & choose appropriate Shell middleware while ensuring that the right non-functional requirements are clearly stated.

• Work with application/engineering teams and other product architects to identify impacts across the landscape in response to a requirement.

• Champion and embed Security by Design and Privacy by Design in projects, to ensure that the appropriate design decisions are made, documented, and implemented.

Skills and Requirements

• Deep technology experience, preferably possessing prior Software Engineer experience with a good balance of problem solving, solutioning mindset with logical thinking and delivery focus

• Ability to work in virtual teams, across time, geographical, and cultural boundaries

• Preferred to have extensive knowledge on relevant technologies, techniques, domains

• Experience in a multi-disciplined IT environment with strong background in Application and Integration architecture

• Delivery-oriented with a focus on results. Agile and Product focused delivery is a must-have

• Knowledge of and experience with Shell’s foundational Hyperscaler, data platforms, integration services and other critical enterprise service offerings

Knowledge of Enterprise Architecture methodologies such as TOGAF or the equivalent and architecture tooling like Bizz Design, ArchiMate or System architect
