Job Description – Manager – Product Development and Engg -2W and PTE

Two wheeler and three Wheeler vehicle are one of the important personal commuting vehicles in India. India and SEA region is one of the largest producers of two / three wheeler vehicles in the world.

SKF established TW COE which state of the art facility for two / three wheeler product development and engineering. SKF is looking for a candidate who is technically competent to both drive and support product engineering for SKF automotive TW business and TWCOE for conventional and EV applications including powertrain, wheel, mechatronics, ASO products, and others. The incubent is expected to support the development of new Products and Technologies in close collaboration with AE, KAM and FVC teams. In this role, he/she will also be responsible to strengthen the knowledge of application and product expertise to SKF frontline community. The incubent is expected to support to flawless new product launches of strategic customer projects with dedicated technical risk mitigation actions. He/she will support SKF for customer discussions, TechDays, conferences, technology conclaves and fairs to enlarge the external network.

Key responsibilities:
TW / TW COE team is expected to design, develop, and launch new products based on strategic product roadmap in close collaboration with all the stakeholders including application engineers, and customers. The incumbent must be aware of technology trends, vehicle usage as well as EV products. The incumbent is expected to support front end teams for customer interactions to demonstrate SKF product benefits, comparative analysis, product technical advantages and help improve the customer’s competitiveness /system performance. Good understanding of Mechatronics products is needed to design, develop, test, and launch the suitable products.

New Product Launches:
Design, develop, Test, and flawless launch of new products and solution focusing on TW ICE / EVs as per product roadmap.

Design, develop bearings and other integrated products, work closely with product integration team to resolve packaging constraints and product implementation concerns if any.

Develop / prepare design rules, SOPs, guidelines for new products design, component selection and modularization.

Develop DV&V plan and coordinate product testing with respective teams.

Provide leadership to new product development projects such as APQP, Work Package management, and similar activities from an engineering perspective.

Led the Design FMEA, FMEA, design reviews and PDP process gates discussion as well drive the actions to meaningful closure.

Monitor customer approval tests conducted on prototypes/initial samples at customer’s premises/installations and close coordinate with respective customer AE / KAM.

Collaborate closely with frontline team to capture VoC, inputs and application requirements.

Support capturing VoC, Technical requirements, Product Development and FVC teams in Designing & developing technical solution for Automotive applications products.

Work closely with external & Internal customers to ensure successful product launch.

Work independently as well as together with global experts and act as technology Liaison for product development.

Anticipate & understand the TW vehicle technology trends and new product technology developments especially integrated solutions in rotating equipment’s. Use this information to best interest of SKF & thereby give application engineering support to customers, value added products ,technical services , in line with the changing Technology

Current Product Engineering:
Handle product quality related issues with AEs /factories and interact with FVC.

Work closely with AEs to complete application analysis, provide optimum solutions based on customer requirements, analysis of RFQs and timely response all the customer queries.

Support strategic initiatives such as cost reduction, product rationalization, VAVE etc.

Conduct and support product benchmarking activities.

Manage the portfolio of ICE / EV Products and technology related product development program focus on optimum product cost.

Support to monitor competitor activities in respect of products and technical development and define activity plan accordingly in collaboration with front end team.

Connect & drive SKF network and community around the technical application portfolio; Boost frontline expertise on new products/features to support profitable growth.

Knowledge Management and Documentation

Support digitalization of engineering and related tasks and application know-how.

Prepare and maintain up to date engineering documentation

Interface with other engineering / research teams for regular product offer/roadmap updates acc. to identified market needs.

Monitor and contribute to global lessons learned to FVC.

Organizational Activities

Support SKF for customer discussions, TechDays, conferences, technology conclaves and fairs to enlarge the external network.

Provide on-call support for specific customer activities with high complexity (e.g., in problem solving task forces).

Additional responsibilities which will be assigned time to time based on business requirements.

Profile of the job holder:
Bachelor of Engineering or Master of engineering (Mechanical, Automobile, Mechatronics, or equivalent engineering).

Minimum 10 years’ experience in product engineering role preferably bearings industry.

Must have hands on and in-depth knowledge of product engineering, engineering standards, design tools and prototype building.

Excellent knowledge of Design, Engineering technology, technical evaluation/calculation, Technical Service, Customer Relationship function in Engineering industry. Understanding of systems engineering methods.

Proficient with Creo, Windchill as well as other learning CAD / ERP tools.

Excellent knowledge of bearing, bearing applications will be preferred.

Knowledge of product costing, different suppliers and design houses will be added advantage.

Knowledge of Engineering Analysis and Engineering Analysis tools like Ansys, Romax etc. will be added advantage.

Understanding of Mechatronics products, sensors etc. will be added advantage.

Excellent knowledge of Automotive – 2-wheeler, and 3-Wheeler conventional and new mobility Vehicles such as EVs, and Power train Architecture.
