The Team
The IEC CMD R&D organization incorporates the Mechanical Engineering team, which is dedicated to deliver engineering solutions in Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry products. We are working closely with IC Business Unit, the Analytical Instruments Group, and multiple collaborative partners, this team strives to transform the most technological concepts into tangible products.
The Position
As a Mechanical engineer, your role entails being part of a team with varied strengths responsible for developing various mechatronic modules for our sophisticated Analytical Instruments. Collaborating closely with mechanical, electronics, software, and mechatronics engineers, as well as architects, project managers, suppliers, and individuals from departments beyond R&D such as operations and service, your contribution is important in bringing these modules to fruition.
Responsibilities
Develop products while adhering to standards and processes, considering cost, specifications, and timelines.
Design products with serviceability, manufacturability, and reliability in mind.
Establish theoretical foundations for designs, including building thermal and dynamic models, conducting FEM analysis.
Provide support, guidance, and motivation to internal and external mechanical designers (suppliers).
Define and specify new designs, and drive them towards successful outcomes.
Supply to FMEA and Safety Risk Assessments.
Provide assistance to factory and field service engineers during initial builds, installations, and upgrades of newly introduced systems and modules, ensuring their accurate functioning.
Develop component and system level test plans
Experience
12+ years of industry product development experience for analytical life science, medical device instrumentation, or related fields.
Experience with manufacturing technologies for plastics and assembly, e.g. injection molding for fluidic sample cartridges.
Proven success leading development and working in a global matrixed environment.
Delivering successful products with a detailed understanding of engineering and product lifecycles and quality management systems.
Strengths in plastic materials, FEA, static and dynamic thermomechanical simulation, mechatronics, DFM, DFSS, Solidworks CAD, GD&T.
Ability to facilitate design of experiment (DOE), root cause analysis (RCA), failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA).
Strong hands-on ability working with life science hardware systems, including fluidic, mechanical, electrical, optical, and pneumatic subsystems. Fixing and optimization of system level performance.
Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to efficiently evaluate and prioritize different projects.
