This is a hybrid position to include functions of trade promotion in selected high technology industry sectors, social media coordinator, and supervision of two full time Clerk/Chauffeurs at post.
The incumbent has primary responsibility in western India for a targeted group of high technology industrial and service sectors. In those sectors s/he provides data collection, reporting and analysis, recruitment and management of trade events and international buyer trips, and counseling and planning for both U.S. exporters and Indian importers. The incumbent identifies distributor, representative, or joint venture candidates and may help a Commercial Specialist prepare reports by gathering of secondary data.
In addition, s/he independently plans and conducts market research studies and commercial reporting, with the advice of a Commercial Specialist if the level of complexity merits it, in response to specific client inquiries.
The incumbent develops and maintains a significant range of host country contacts, including mid-level government officials, executives in banking, commerce, and industry, and trade associations. S/he uses these contacts to identify trade issues, resolve regulatory complaints, and develops trade opportunities and potential partners for U.S. firms. The incumbent monitors regulatory matters affecting assigned sectors as well as general trade issues – including laws, regulations, standards, procedures, and other legal issues – affecting the importation of U.S. goods and services.
The incumbent also has back-up responsibility for several sectors. Some of them, such as aviation, process control instrumentation, and composite materials, are highly complex. S/he provides support to the Commercial Specialists as needed for all tasks required in servicing those sectors.
The incumbent also supervises and evaluates two full time Clerk/Chauffeurs and manages transportation logistics for the Commercial Specialist and Mumbai-based staff.
