Duties
Mumbai processes one of the largest numbers of both immigrant and non-immigrant visas in the world. Mumbai has assumed a focal position in Mission India by becoming the sole post to process immigrant visas in the country. It processes 14% of temporary work visas for the United States. The Fraud Prevention Unit (FPU) Investigations Assistant supports the daily activities of the Fraud Prevention Unit in the Consular section. Its primary responsibility is reviewing and assessing visa and citizenship applications to make sure visa officers have the best possible information upon which to base a decision. The incumbent develops expertise in identifying and reporting fraud through knowledge of local customs and U.S. immigration law. The incumbent must effectively interview applicants to elicit information that is material to an adjudication decision in any of the categories of benefits for the non-immigrant (NIV), Immigrant (IV), or American Citizen Services (ACS) sections. The incumbent must use technology effectively to keep records of fraud assessments, to track trends, and to gain information in cases of potential fraud. The incumbent also provides training to adjudicating officers in the section regarding fraud prevention and detection techniques. The incumbent must exhibit excellent judgment and strong leadership, management, and interpersonal skills due to the high profile nature of India’s Immigrant visa adjudications and the need to communicate effectively with applicants and officers in the Consular section. The incumbent is also required to conduct periodic site visits within Mumbai’s consular district.
Qualifications and Evaluations
Requirements:
EXPERIENCE: Three years of experience in research or investigation in legal analysis, management consulting, human resources, police or military investigations or other similar work is required. (Please describe your previous and current job responsibilities in detail.)
Key Requirements:
University degree is required.(See Education requirements).
Minimum three (3) years’ experience is required (See Experience section).
Fluent in English, Hindi and Punjabi is required (See Language section).

Locally Employed Staff, including Members of Household (MOHs) and Third-Country Nationals (TCNs), working at the U.S. Consulate General in Mumbai may receive a compensation package that may include health, separation, and other benefits.
For EFMs, benefits should be discussed with the Human Resources Office.
The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.
