Primary Responsibilities:

• Maintaining a technology strategy and roadmap that is aligned with both Optum Technology directives as well as the business goals and objectives. Managing a financial operating plan with objectives to drive margin optimization

• Define and develop project plans, managing and mentoring personnel, helping developers resolve technical issues, monitoring and reviewing project progress, and serving as a liaison for internal stakeholders

• Direct the activities of teams and functions responsible for the design, development, testing, integration, deployment, support, and maintenance of the Agile development projects

• Partner with the Business, Product Management, and IT in the definition, sizing, and prioritization of initiatives, creation of the portfolio road map, and solution delivery

• Lead the execution of technology strategy for technology platforms, partnerships, and external relationships

• Liaison between the team and the Senior Leadership

• Mentor team and assisting in design of individual goals and professional growth plans

• Assist in recruiting efforts for development as well as other teams in the Technology department

• Give performance evaluations and reviews to supervised employees

• Take ownership of product road map and develop product release plans in alignment with business strategy & customer needs

• Build and deliver multiple products/components in rapid iterations and with high predictability

• Drive initiatives to raise the bar on product SLA’s

• Build and maintain high performance engineering teams

• Drive initiatives to raise the bar on quality of deliverables and productivity of teams

• Assist business in product launches & customer adoption

• Successfully delivery of multiple products/components on time and within budget

• Provides leadership to and is accountable for the performance and direction through multiple layers of management and senior level professional staff

• Work most often impacts a large business unit, or multiple markets/sites

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or an equivalent in a related field

• 20+ years of experience in leading Product development teams with a proven track record of delivering on commitments and moving teams to the next level of execution with 5+ years experience in managing Agile teams

• 10+ years of experience with Java/J2EE development, object-oriented design and integration of different systems

• Technical experience in Building API Layers or building portal services, leveraging service-oriented programming and cloud technology

• Experience in leading technology teams in a direct-to-consumer business

• Experience towards identifying and delivering on opportunities to leverage Opensource technology

• Thorough understanding of fundamental software engineering and computer science principles: object-oriented design, structured design, databases, algorithms, data structures, usability, debugging, and configuration management

• Experience with infrastructure automation using Orchestration Tools

• Deep knowledge of DevOps concepts, including continuous integration and deployment

• Knowledge of and experience using public cloud providers (AWS, Azure)

• Aptitude for evidenced-based management, leveraging metrics to drive desired outcomes

• Innovative and passionate about new technologies for creating a framework for future products

• Strong business and commercial acumen; align technology with business needs

• Ability to collaborate, mobilize, build and motivate teams; a strong sense of personal initiative, and demonstrated capabilities of being a thought leader

• Familiar with DevOps tools such as GitHub, Sonar, Foreman and Jenkins

• Software architecture concepts

• Network familiarity

Preferred Qualifications:

• Exposure to FHIR interop ability or FHIR Cloud Platforms (like Azure)
