When I dreamt of building Vedanta 25+ years ago, I dreamt of creating a world-leading metals, mining, hydrocarbons, natural resources, and renewable energy company that would be focused on unlocking the tremendous potential that Mother Earth had bestowed upon India, in terms of its natural and mineral wealth, and in supporting the country’s journey towards all-round social development and self-reliance.

Today, I am proud to share, Vedanta, a future-focused, high-growth company, has achieved much of what we set out to do in the initial years: we are one of the largest producers of Zinc, Silver, Nickel, Cobalt, Ferro-chrome, Manganese and Aluminium in the world, with a fast growing metal recycling capability; the country’s largest private upstream producer of hydrocarbons; a significant player in Copper, Iron Ore and Steel, and a broad range of critical minerals. Whilst we have aligned with India’s import substitution efforts over the years, we have also tried to contribute to the country’s social development efforts, both directly and indirectly. Through robust development programmes, we have built and maintained 6000+ ‘Nand Ghars’ in partnership with the Government of India, and consequently, have impacted and continue to support more than 150,000 Children and 50,000 women. This addresses issues related to childhood hunger and supports women empowerment. Vedanta is amongst the highest contributors to the nation’s tax collection efforts by having paid a total tax of USD32 billion over last 5 years. This encapsulates the essence of Vedanta’s commitment to contribute toward “nation building.”

I am both humbled and confident in my belief that none of this would have been possible without the strength, passion, determination, and hard work of the 100,000+ people who are directly, and the million-plus people who are indirectly, part of the Vedanta family in India and around the globe.
