Job Description  

About the role

Verisk Extreme Event Solutions develops catastrophe models that help insurance companies and other organizations prepare for the financial impacts of natural and man-made catastrophic events before they occur. Clients use our software tools and applications in conjunction with those models to generate business-critical data.

As a member of our Software Documentation Team, you will produce content that helps our clients understand how our applications work and how to get the most out of them.

Day to day responsibilities

• Create content in DITA XML using our authoring tool, oXygen Author.
• Receive, complete, and report on documentation assignments. Estimate completion times and continually evaluate your workload. Report issues and roadblocks promptly and honestly.
• Learn how our products work and what our customers want to know about them. Read existing technical and marketing content. Attend classes, discussions, and feature demonstrations. Collaborate with subject-matter experts and client support professionals to understand how our documentation can best help our customers.
• Produce documentation that is accurate, thorough, easy to read, grammatically correct, and on time.
• Help us maintain and improve our tools and processes. Contribute to our internal knowledge base and always be on the lookout for things we can do better.

Qualifications  

• Have at least one year of experience as a technical or science writer.
• Understand how software is developed.
• Demonstrate an ability to translate highly technical material into language that is accessible to a broad audience.
• Be detail-oriented, with solid English structuring, writing, editing, and proof-reading skills.
• Be motivated and self-directed.
• Be curious and resourceful. Take pride in your ability to learn new things and solve problems.
• Be flexible and adaptable. You’ll often work on multiple concurrent projects with changing priorities and tight deadlines.
• Know how to interview technical staff to obtain information
