We are looking for a program manager with a proven track record of delivering high quality, well-architected solutions. As a program manager within the VMware Cloud Solutions team, you will build common platform services and solutions that are key to VMware’s exciting and evolving strategic SaaS direction. The program manager will work with a multi-functional, geo-distributed team and will help to coordinate activities with directors, product managers, technical support, development, QA engineers and other partners. You will need to take firm ownership and command work related to multi-functional readiness, software development life cycle process, risk management, schedule, deliverables, change management and risk management. We are looking for people with a genuine passion to drive programs forward to ensure team success – passengers need not apply.
Responsibilities:
Be integrated into a multi-functional, geo-diverse team and work in close collaboration with management and R&D teams.
Drive, define and report on milestones related to the successful completion of a multiple projects often running in parallel.
Develop and track detailed project plans, schedules, dependencies and identify critical paths and bottlenecks enthusiastically to avoid delays, focusing on critical priorities for strategic customers.
Build and run, with the team, the delivery plans (schedule, dependencies, risks, etc.). Use your technical background and product knowledge to proactively identify risks, issues and drive their resolution.
Think “outside of the box” and make proposals or suggest alternatives to complex problems to drive a project forward – while ensuring alignment and communication necessary across all groups.
Effectively collaborate with project partners – must have strong communication skills, email and verbal.
Independently and accurately report on the state of your programs to executive stakeholders. Be the trusted speaker on the state of release in key checkpoint reviews.
Possess strong presentation skills and ability to communicate thoughts, insights and status in various formats – email, verbal, ppt, WIKI, etc.
Adhere to VMware internal processes during the whole development cycle – idea, patent, requirements, specifications, designs, implementation, bug fixing, QA, support, and so on.
Build and maintain confidence of colleagues and internal customers.
Identify and document best practices or adjustments to best practices as items evolve within the group.
Take pride in leading and driving the success of key SaaS solution releases at VMware. Be the credible and trusted leader to deliver these continuous releases on plan and with high quality.
Stay involved and collaborate with others to drive the planning and execution of releases from concept to GA.
Be the expert on release life cycle processes and champion process best practices, metrics and high-quality standards with your delivery team.
Requirements:
Degree in Computer Science, Business, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
8+ years of experience running software engineering and project/program development management.
Practical experience in Agile methodologies and in running cloud-based/SaaS projects are a plus.
Practical experience program-managing Software-As-a-Service products and cloud-based services. Solid knowledge in cloud technologies and DevOps practices.
Proven experience with issue and project tracking tools – JIRA experience preferred.
Experience with WIKIs and other collaboration tools – Confluence a plus.
Experienced in software development and project/program management fundamentals (software development life cycle and quality processes, such as scoping, costs, schedules, deliverables, change and risk management, and mitigation)
Excellent oral/written communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills.
Excellent organizational, prioritization, and multitasking skills.
Exceptional skills influencing, teaming, and delivering solutions in a highly complex and nebulous environment.
Ability to conceive of and accept responsibility for projects and see them through to completion.
Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently in as dynamic environment and drive change across VMware groups that may be in different parts of the organization.
Strong software engineering technical background with a passion for delivering high performance, quality software.
Ability to synthesize strategic solutions to interdependent and broad problems.
