You will be a fully warranted, salaried officer from day one while working towards a 3-year Degree Apprenticeship or a 2-year Graduate Diploma in Professional Policing Practice, working alongside experienced officers. We work in partnership with the University of South Wales to deliver these training programmes. After training, the route you can take is varied and there are a range of specialist routes open to you in the future.
Wiltshire welcomes an increasingly diverse community. Wiltshire Police are working towards reflecting the communities we serve, by encouraging candidates from all ethnic backgrounds and female applicants to apply for the role of Police Officer with the knowledge they will be fully supported through the application process by the Positive Action Team.
We are currently offering two entry routes for training from January 2024 onwards:
1 – Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (PCDA)
Degree apprenticeship applications are welcomed from candidates holding a Level 3 qualification (minimum one A Level) AND will hold Level 2 (Grade C or above at GCSE) in Maths and English by the time they start.
Join as a Police Constable, take an apprenticeship in Professional Policing Practice and earn while you learn. This route takes three years with on and off-the-job learning, plus academic study. On successful completion, you finish your probation and achieve a Degree in Professional Policing Practice (Level 6).
2 – Degree Holder Entry Programme (DHEP)
Applications are welcomed from candidates holding a degree (Level 6 or equivalent) in any subject.
Join as a Police Constable and take a Graduate Diploma in Professional Policing Practice. This route takes two years with on and off-the-job training and you will need a Level 6 qualification in any subject.
Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship and Degree Holder Entry Programme starting salary: £23,556 (pay point 0)
Following successful completion of initial training Patrol Status, after approximately 39 weeks training: £26,682 (pay point 1)
Police Constable maximum salary after 7 years’ service: £43,032
Increment dates reflect current pay conditions and may be subject to change.
If you don’t have a Level 3 qualification:
Wiltshire Police recognises that not everyone may have had the opportunity to study at Level 3 (A Level equivalent) and will accept personal statements (750 words maximum), evidencing relevant work experience and life skills. We will be in direct contact with you after we receive your application if this is needed and you do not need to submit it with your application.
For further information on qualifications and completing a Personal Statement (if required) please see our website.
If you have any questions whilst completing your application please email recruitment@wiltshire.police.uk or if you are a Positive Action candidate please email PositiveAction@wiltshire.police.uk
