Job Context & Major Challenges: Birla Cellulosic is the latest unit in Group’s Pulp & Fiber Business established in 1998 with latest state of the art technology comprising of DCS control and certain imported equipment’s. The designated capacity was 63875 TPA. Post-expansion, this will now be scaled up to 133955 TPA. Consequently, it is expected to produce best quality of VSF in the group with consistency and at lowest cost of production and establish benchmarks with the group. The Unit meets the requirement of fiber in both domestic and export market. Post-expansion, a 25 MW extraction mode captive power plant having interdependency with VSF operation is integrated with zero tripping tolerance. There has been continuous improvement on all fronts viz quality, safety, production, productivity, product grades, consumption ratios, environmental aspects etc. These are to be sustained and improved further for providing a competitive edge to the business. Viscose preparation is a chemical process and it involves a sequence of operations. Few important unit operations are: Alkylation, Xanthation, Filtration, de-polymerization, de-aeration , Refrigeration & use of catalyst etc. Control of various parameters in each operation in narrow band is required to maintain standard quality of the final product. It is also required to update the old technology to improve quality product, reduce cost of production, energy conservation & maintain safe work environment etc. Other Major Challenges: 1. Cross functional coordination for implementation of projects within scheduled time 2. Organizing resources from external vendors/contractors 3. Troubleshooting of plant problems and identifying RCA within short time without affecting production volume.
Key Result Areas/Accountabilities: Technology upgradation to improve mill performance 1. Collection of details of latest developments 2.Collecting data through internet survey, mill visits, life cycle study feasibility study, seminars and interaction with vendors. 3. Evaluate the operation and identify improvement opportunities 4. Develop schemes to eliminate variance 5. Formulate projects for implementation Trouble shooting – To trouble shoot problems and formulate suitable solutions to minimize / eliminate their occurrence 1. Analyze data for breakdown / failures / variations 2.Draw action plan for CAPA measures in consultation with depts.. 3. Implement and review performance Planning & Budgeting 1. Identify equipment replacement/repair, plan and budget
2. Plan and budget improvement projects for the financial year for implementation 3. Forecasting month wise expenditure for the sanctioned / to be sanctioned projects. Quarterly review and updates 4. Monitor inventory Projects handling 1. Complete techno commercial feasibility analysis for the project 2. Evaluate comparative quotes 3. Ensure compliance to technical specification 4. Coordinate with material department for onetime and within budget completion 5. Project performance evaluation and sustaining gain 6. In case of deviations consult with supplier and ensure desired gains are achieved on continual basis. Cost 1. Daily monitoring analysis of cost and consumption ratios. 2. Appraise deviations to depts. 3. Coordinate for corrective measures and reviews 4. Scrutinize the regular process requirement to ensure budget norms are met System Compliance 1. Follow SOP for all activities 2. Compliance with safety and environment norms 3. Ensure implementation of WCM, ISO, OHSMS MIS reports 1. Verification of data and interaction with dept. 2.Analysis of data 3. Timely submission of data 4. Study various MIS reports received from group units and organize composite summary 5. Identify benchmark and layout action plan 6. Data bank updating
Relationships: Internal DH – Viscose, Spinning, Recovery, CS2/Acid Plant, WTP/ETP Steam & Power consumption – Daily Electrical, Mechanical, Instrumentation, Civil departments Plant trouble shooting – As per need DH – Lab Trouble shooting & analysis of customer complaints – As per need
