Focus:

Contributes to analysis of business, application, and technical infrastructure requirements. Supports the design, build, improvement and integration of infrastructure required to support the business portfolio or infrastructure platform in terms of robustness, scalability, availability and efficiency. Supports initiatives that deliver workable end-to-end infrastructure solutions that enforce to Technology standards.

Organizational Context:

Starter-level position, generally, a recent college passout. Member of platform engineering or delivery and integration team reporting to a Senior Infrastructure Engineer, Engineering Director or Director of Technical Delivery.

How will you make an impact in this role?

• Performs base technical aspects to supports infrastructure implementations, deployments and technologies related to dynamic infrastructure platforms

• Participates in current state system analysis, requirements gathering, and documentation

• Assist with configuration and implementation deployments

• Assists with creation of technical design/implementation documentation

• Supports requirements understanding and issue resolution

• Participates in test planning and execution

• Work with project teams to prepare components for production

• Provide support for ongoing platform infrastructure availability

• Work on prioritized/assigned features for ongoing sprints

The Linux Operations team is part of Cloud Operations and provides 24x7x365 management and Support for American Express Enterprise Linux Servers on Virtual Infrastructure as well as Physical Environment. The Infrastructure Engineer position will provide day to day operational support for Linux Operating System (primarily Redhat). This team will manage Linux servers throughout the delivery lifecycle and will execute daily operations including deployment of new Linux servers infrastructure and delivery of reliable, robust support solutions.

Qualifications

Experience:

• 1-2 years proven experience of managing various Redhat Linux Operating Systems

Responsibilities

The Infrastructure Engineer will be responsible for:

Technical Expertise:

• Working in an enterprise environment providing operational support by building, configuring, and managing Redhat Linux O/S servers

• Hand on experience in managing virtual machines on VMware and Nutanix environment

• Application deployment and managing of middleware like JBoss, WebSphere etc

• Patching and troubleshooting patching related issues on Redhat Linux servers

• Builds, deploys, maintains and assist with repairs of Linux servers/hosts on racks, blades, and hyper converged infrastructures

• Working knowledge and understanding of Cisco UCS blades and Chassis

• Working with Enterprise Backup & Restore Processes (Familiarity with Cohesity/NetBackup)

• Automating day to day activities using shell scripting/python/ansible/puppet

• Detailed knowledge of user administration, network administration, storage and security components

• Maintaining skills to the current industry level of certification

• Recognizing and articulating job-related problems to management

• Strong understanding of file system concepts, server clustering technologies (Redhat Cluster using PCS) and methodologies

• Server Maintenance, Backups, Performance Audit & Logging

• Good understanding of infrastructure monitoring tools like Nagios/Icinga etc

• Managing SSL certificates for applications and web servers

• Good understanding of system related process (initd/systemd), runlevels etc

• Analysing technical problems and creating solutions involving the use of existing techniques and/or tools.

• Research, review, recommend, implement and document server solutions

• Exhibit a sense of urgency to resolve issues.

• Ensure SLA’s and Operational standards are met including ITSM guidelines

• Self-motivation and strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are key attributes for this position

• Ability to handle multiple tasks, set priorities, schedule, and meet deadlines (work under pressure and prioritize tasks)

• Flexible to work in shifts and weekends

• Strong analytical and problem solving techniques

• Bachelors in Computer Science/Management Information Systems or equivalent experience preferred
