The Data Management and Governance Oversight team within Global Risk and Compliance (GRC) is responsible for ensuring that American Express’s most critical data and supporting processes can be trusted for their intended purposes, meet regulatory requirements, and support the development & execution of effective risk management practices.

This role will work in a team of professionals to assess, challenge and monitor the effectiveness of critical data management practices and controls within the American Express enterprise.

Key Responsibilities

• Hands on monitoring and continued enhancement of the data management and, specifically, metadata management practices

• Identification and improvement of metrics to effectively monitor and oversee the metadata management practices

• Provide opinion to challenge through independent reviews of the implemented data management initiatives and the in-scope critical data processes specifically targeted at managing metadata

• Assess metadata management practices on critical data assets in order to drive insights and recommendations for leadership and the first line teams

• Evaluate the evolving regulatory requirements and expectations around data management to assess and challenge scope of enterprise data management strategy

• Escalate issues in accordance with the enterprise data management oversight program.

• Hands on experience on Collibra is must

Qualifications

Experience and Background:

• Hands on experience with metadata management best practices

• Hands on development Collibra processes (having Ranger certification is a strong plus)

• Hands on experience with building metamodels or enhancing existing ones through a change management process

• Hands on experience with automating data discovery (especially with Dataguise or BigID and building RegEx combinations) is strongly proffered

• Strong familiarity with key data governance concepts such as roles and responsibilities, data domain structures, Critical Data Elements etc.

• Familiarity with data management industry standards (such as DMBOK, DAMA) is desirable.

• Familiarity with basic data design concepts around structured and unstructured data

• Familiarity with audit practices and applicable regulatory requirements, specifically in the Finance Management space, such as CCAR, BASEL, FRB is desirable

• Experience in data-driven analytics, including analyzing structured and unstructured data stores

• Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple priorities under pressure.

• Advanced degree preferred.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills through story boarding and executive communication.
