About this role

Delivery Validation sits within the accountable IT Delivery Unit and is responsible for the delivery of IT Services via outsourced managed services.

The roles primary focus is to ensure business needs are satisfied in a cost effective and timely manner aligned to the IT strategic plans whilst preserving the value of Partner engagements and following a control and compliance framework.

Design solutions ensuring conformance to architectural principles and patterns, building digital customer experiences for our business customers & Validating requirements to facilitate effectively developed solutions

Connect with Enterprise architects and technical design authority for discussions and approval of the design patterns and solutions.

You’ll have the following responsibilities

• To provide the project delivery community with consultancy to enable cost effective and timely delivery of solutions from outsourced IT Managed Service Partners.

• To maintain Technical ownership of the systems within area of expertise by monitoring and guiding both the high level and detailed design activity undertaken by Partners or internal teams.

• To ensure the integrity of the systems within area of expertise by reviewing solutions documentation and responses to specific requirements including High Level Designs and plans.

• To provide both commercial and technical validation and assurance of project solutions proposed by Partners.

• To provide a technical escalation point for project delivery issues across numerous distributed services provided by key partners as well as internal teams. This requires working closely with other departments within EE/BT as well as with 3rd party Partners and business users.

• To initiate and assist in technical and process escalations and the subsequent improvement activity across the organisation.

• Provide the project delivery community with consultancy to enable cost effective and timely delivery of solutions from outsourced IT Partners.

• Act as a point of co-ordination to align delivery and test plans from Partners for Functional Delivery Activity

• Provide guidance and direction to projects requiring Partner engagement.

• Review estimates and commitments of the effort required for specific deliverables provided by partners.

• Provide a point of Technical escalation for project delivery issues

• Using organisational, process and technical domain knowledge, act as a subject matter expert for IT applications provided by multiple service providers; with the ability to liaise with both business and other technical areas of EE/BT at all levels

• Continuous assessment of the technical capability of the Partner and driving continuous improvement where necessary

• Review estimates and commitments of the effort required for specific deliverables provided by partners. Provide a point of Technical escalation for project delivery issues

• Ensure that the stability/performance/availability of the systems are a key consideration of the execution of the role (design)

• Provide information in relation to trends, volume, process adherence etc that will enable strong Partner MI (for use in scorecards) and across BT IT as a whole

• Develop and maintain ‘subject matter expertise’ level of knowledge across IT applications whilst managing key partners

• Provide advice and guidance during contract renewals, contract changes, validation of quotes and purchases including licences through the demand management process

• Maintaining a can-do attitude amidst conflicting priorities and constant change.

You’ll have the following skills & experience

• Sound technical knowledge, beyond the organisation, with strong commercial acumen

• Strong communication, interpersonal and facilitation skills, a methodical and structured approach, good documentation skills and attention to detail.

• Demonstrable experience as a solution architect

• Experience working on highly available and scalable infrastructure projects incorporating Cloud-based technology

• Knowledge of Cloud Computing patterns, workflows, and services; and how they relate to a big data platform

• Strong expertise and industry qualifications in Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Microsoft Azure

• Deep technical knowledge of complex (and simple) architectures, covering all aspects (compliance, risk, security, governance)

• Experienced in deploying data solutions and cloud infrastructure via CI/CD pipelines

• Experienced in deploying Infrastructure as Code (Terraform / CloudFormation etc)

• Experience of building large scale data pipelines on at least one Cloud Platform (GCP, Azure and AWS)

• Exceptional attention to detail and communication skills, with a collaborative approach

• Confidence effectively analysing business requirements and articulating technical concepts to a non-technical audience

• Formal advanced certification in required technical and domain skills

• Ability to manage changing business and technical requirements in highly dynamic project environments

• In-depth understanding of the customer impacts of domain functions

• Demonstrates the ability to make, and take responsibility for sound decisions on technical issues within a commercial framework.

• Role is specifically intended to validate Partner solutions from a commercial perspective so is critical to delivering the value of the Partner Contracts/Work.

• Experience of designing/developing efficient high volume data processing solutions would be an advantage

• Expertise in ETL methodologies, in particular an understanding and application of the key aspects of Ab Initio would be an advantage.

• An understanding of Data warehouse database design principles – for example Fact/Dimension modelling.

Experience you would be expected to have

• Ideally degree level qualification. Membership of a professional body. Known within the industry and within BT as a thought leader with a good network of connections across partners, competitors and government/research bodies.

• Experience in high profile design roles in the telecommunications sector.

• Proven experience of delivering complex technical solutions in a diverse environment

• Experience of managing relationships with software partners and third-party development partners, of product/package selection, and of delivering those products into a production environment

• Experience of successfully delivering application development using clear project management techniques and methodologies, employing a combination of internal and Partner-supplied resource.

• Experience of Managing relationships with internal business customers, and of understanding and planning for the delivery of agreed solutions to meet mutual business needs.

• Experience of communicating directly with and using influencing skills at senior management levels.

• Experience of working in a team environment

• In-depth knowledge of the business functions and technology within the domain.
