Excellent understanding of the IBM Z architecture as well as of mainframe hardware configuration concepts including, but not limited to, HCD, IODF, IOCDS etc.
Good knowledge of the mainframe hardware initialization process and fluency with handling the hardware management console
Good knowledge of the channel subsystems, logical channel subsystems and subchannel set definitions
Experience handling multiple LCSS’s and troubleshooting mainframe hardware & channel connectivity problems
Working knowledge of LPAR configurations and configurations of the different kinds of IBM Z processor types – CP, IFL, zIIP, CF
Experience handling parallel sysplex configurations and storage (DASD, tape) device configurations
Good understanding of GDPS, disaster recovery, high availability, RPO / RTO and replication related technologies
Experience designing and implementing mainframe hardware installs and new processor installs
