Job Summary

Responsible for contributing in project teams, troubleshooting operational issues, providing technical solutions to operational problems, new product implementation, implementing existing products and services and the overall upkeep and maintenance of designated areas of engineering. Acts in compliance with industry and Company technical requirements, standards, policies and procedures. Works with moderate guidance in own area of knowledge.

Job Description

As a database administrator for sky, your role will be to support a large-scale database management team, supporting thousands of important databases for Sky.

Core Responsibilities

• Provide internal customers with expertise for technically complex issues

• Ensure adequate monitoring, alerting, backups and maintenance plans in place for all databases

• Manage and support incident, change and problem management processes ensuring responses are made within adequate times

• Build effective working relationships with a variety of infrastructure and application teams to ensure that technology and process improvements deliver overall service improvements to our end customers

• Monitor performance, performing maintenance and tuning of the database platform based on your and others recommendations

• Communicate regularly with technical, development and operational staff to ensure database integrity, capacity and security

• Gather business and technical requirements for new databases

• Produce documentation for use in configuration and support of managed database systems.

Employees at all levels are expected to:

• Experience working as an Oracle Database Administrator in the support of Oracle 19C/12C running on UNIX.

• Experience working with the following: Oracle RDBMS, Oracle RMAN (Backup and Recovery), Oracle Data Guard, ASM and Oracle Enterprise Manager.

• Experience/knowledge of the following: SQL Tuning, and Oracle Golden Gate. (Highly Desirable)

• An ability to create and review supporting technical documentation for database systems

• Good communication and relationship management skills in order to communicate in a clear and structured manner at all levels within Sky.

• Confidence and attitude to positively impact the team and take ownership of tasks and issues.

• Demonstrable experience of working in an environment where it has been critical to deliver rapidly against the changing needs of the business

• Track record in supporting diverse and complex technical environments where maximum availability has been achieved

• Willingness to thrive and succeed in a fast-paced, dynamic 24X7 environment.
