Position Title : Field Scientist (Agricultural Entomology)
Job Location: Toopran Research Centre, Hyderabad Purpose

• Conducts and monitors trials to characterize laboratory and filed efficacy of new chemistry compounds and product concepts, in line with technical objectives provided by the function following all company stewardship guideline
• Provides local knowledge on crop management practices, issues, and trends to Crop Protection Discovery & Development (CPD&D) teams as well as the commercial organization.
• Supports product knowledge transfer for local product launches in the country or Commercial Units.
• Provides input into locally and globally driven protocols, summarizes data at the local level and contributes to regional and global field data summaries in line with established Research Cycle processes

Skills

• Broad scientific and agronomic understanding and leadership, ability to plan and conduct bioassays, greenhouse experiments with respect to sucking pests along with lepidopteran insect pests.
• Knowledge of multiplying different insect pests of economic importance affecting key crops with knowledge of molecular tools employed in agricultural entomology.
• Versatile individual who can solve practical problems and is committed to a strong safety and stewardship culture.
• Strong written and oral communication skills with good command of English to interact with local and global stakeholders to disseminate complex technical issues in a clear, concise manner.

Key responsibilities

• Accountable for executing the approved biology plans by flawlwss experiments / trials in laboratory, controlled environment and in field, as per protocols or by creating protocols
• Accountable for arranging test materials and insects required for the respective laboratory, controlled environment and field experiments/trials by proper planning, forecasting and organizing shipments if any in coordination with Research Centre Leader.
• Responsible for defining and delivering country specific IRM recommendations, including but not limited to product durability plans based on data-driven resistance risks, dose determinations, baseline susceptibility studies, bioactive substance characterization.
• Designing and conducting molecular, nucleic acid based assays detecting genes or mutations involved in resistance of the field collected samples.
• Summarizes data from trials and reliable upload of data with quality assurance to data bases. Provides key observations and recommendations on product performance to local, regional & global Biology Leaders in CPD&D.
• Assists CPD&D experts in strategy of local data generation for pipeline and existing products to ensure optimal technical value propositions for final products and cost-efficient trial plans.
• Organizes virtual tours for product knowledge transfer upon request showcasing the trial results to enable decision making in a regional/global trial program.
• Provides input on the critical assessment and prioritization of technical needs and activities essential to the implementation of business strategy.
• Preparing and reviewing technical documents including lab standard operating procedures, study protocols and reports
• Provide technical mentoring to technicians who support the studies.
• Responsible for contributing by adhering to all ethics, safety and compliance (EHS) standards of Corteva.

Key activities in the Organization

• Assists in providing technical support and training with organization’s portfolios, with special emphasis on Field Sciences.
• Works with Principal/Zonal Biology Leads to develop supporting biology characterization studies to address product performance queries.
• Works with Biology Leaders in CPD&D to achieve technical objectives through Laboratory, Greenhouse and field trials.
• Works with Predictive Ag Team to provide technical support on next-generation pest control and ag practices.
• Works with Regulatory specialists to ensure that the local regulatory compliance data are generated.
• Support crop protection modernization initiatives by significant contribution starting from ideation until implementation.

Qualifications

Qualifications

• A Ph.D. degree in Agricultural Entomology from a reputed Agricultural University is a must.
• Candidates must have a demonstrated ability to transfer technology through scientific presentation and publication.
• Experience : Upto 2 years of relevant experience
• Applicants should have an in-depth knowledge of the theories and practices of agricultural science and a demonstrated proficiency in conducting and publishing refereed research.
• A working knowledge of agronomic management practices, crop protection solution, exposure to molecular bioassays would be of candidates’ advantage
