Director – Marketing Engineering

This is an exciting opportunity to lead a large engineering team and influence the direction of Groupon’s marketing technology platform. Our marketing engineering organisation spans three development centres: Bangalore, Dublin and Seattle. The teams in Bangalore are responsible for a wide range of our platform services, including:

• Email and Push notifications
• Sponsored Listings and Ads-on-Groupon
• Promo codes
• Subscriptions

Each of our dev centres is responsible for creating new services all the time – this is not a localisation role; we want you to build new things. Engineering is an important source of new product ideas at Groupon and you and your teams are encouraged to innovate. The director role combines technical leadership with the mission of forging a reputation for the Bangalore engineering teams as best-in-class across Groupon. We value empathetic leaders who can inspire and cultivate their teams while delivering ambitious targets. You’ll spend time on the following:

• Cultivating a strong identity and team culture for the engineering teams in Bangalore
• Inspiring creativity in your teams and facilitating R&D
• Working with product managers in multiple locations to define product strategy
• Delivering business-impacting products and services using Agile methodologies
• Providing technical guidance to your senior engineers
• Mentoring your leadership team and senior peers in the organization
• Building and nurturing strong relationships across the organization
• Assisting your direct reports and their teams with career development plans
• Defining individual and organizational goals for each quarter
• Implementing process improvements to the development lifecycle
• Allocating your teams according to business priorities and ensuring they are working in the most impactful projects

We’re excited about you if you have:

• Direct leadership and management of global organisations over 50 people across multiple time zones and locations
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• A minimum of 10-12 years supervisory experience and proven success in managing global technical teams in a fast-paced, dynamic customer-facing software business.
• Knowledge of industry best practices for software development, IT life cycles, mentoring and leadership of diverse IT professionals.
• Proven experience building and leading global high performance technical teams
• Deep understanding of Agile and Continuous Delivery concepts and tools.
• Strong knowledge of all aspects of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
• Experience with current DevOps toolchains for infrastructure deployment, software build/test/deploy, and systems/application monitoring/logging such as Jenkins, Ansible, Maven, Chef, SALT, Puppet, ELK, AppDynamics etc.
• Technical expertise in an IT vertical, such as product support, software development, networking, architecture, quality assurance, or system administration.
