Safety Officers are responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing employee safety at work. Their duties include enforcing safety policies, conducting audits and inspections, investigating accidents, ensuring compliance, and training employees on company programs. They must also identify training needs, develop appropriate training courses, and assess and document hazards, risks, and controls in accordance with established procedures and practices. Additionally, Safety Officers must analyze the hazards of a specific job and set up and supervise the implementation of safety plans such as fire prevention plans, hazardous materials handling, and machine guarding. Common hazards in the automobile industry include manual handling, vehicle manufacturing, engineering, wheel and tyre fitting, auto electricians, crash repairs and spray painting, and parts suppliers.
