The Extreme Classification (XC) team at Microsoft Research India tackles some of the largest classification problems in the world involving millions to billions of categories. We work on some of the most fun and challenging problems in the space of extremely large-scale Machine Learning applied to search and recommendation problems, including the new chat experience in Bing. Over the last decade, our team has evolved into an interdisciplinary team with key contributions from researchers in diverse areas of computer science such as ML, NLP, IR, Systems and Theory. Our team has published highly impactful papers in leading conferences such as ICML, KDD, MLSys, NeurIPS, WSDM & WWW, including a best paper award at WSDM 2019.
Along with this strong academic impact, our extreme classifiers have shipped in almost every major product and market within the Microsoft Search and Advertising Platform where they are making billions of predictions a day, increasing the productivity of millions of people, and increasing the revenue and reach of many businesses worldwide. These contributions resulted in our team winning multiple awards for our impact and engineering excellence. We follow an open research policy towards publishing and have released much of our source code on the extreme classification repository which has become a vital resource for open, reproducible, academic research. Responsibilities
As an Individual Contributor, the candidate will be responsible for all aspects of developing novel extreme classification algorithms and deploying them into various Microsoft products.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
BTech/MTech in Computer Science (or related fields).
Strong technical background and experience in Applied ML.
Proven record of accomplishment of tech transferring applied ML/NLP/IR solutions into products with significant impact.
High motivation and energy to significantly increase and amplify our team’s output.
Passion for building great products that help millions of people through world class research and engineering.
Excellent communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
PhD in Machine Learning or a related area.
Strong publication record in AI/ML conferences and journals.
