Job Description – OT Technician (Expert in Eye Surgery)

Position: OT Technician (Surgical Expert – Eye Surgery)

Location: Bharat  Charitable Hospital Deoband

Department: Operation Theatre (OT)

Job Summary:

The OT Technician (Eye Surgery Expert) is responsible for assisting ophthalmic surgeons in the operation theatre, ensuring the proper handling of surgical instruments, maintaining a sterile environment, and providing technical support for various eye surgeries. The role requires expertise in cataract surgery, retinal procedures, corneal transplants, glaucoma surgery, and other ophthalmic operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Pre-Surgical Responsibilities:

• Prepare the operation theatre for eye surgeries, ensuring a sterile and organized environment.
• Set up and sterilize ophthalmic surgical instruments (phaco machine, microscopes, etc.).
• Ensure the availability of IOLs (Intraocular Lenses), surgical drapes, and consumables.
• Assist the surgical team in patient positioning and preoperative preparations.
• Check and calibrate OT equipment like surgical microscopes and vitrectomy machines.

During Surgery:

• Assist the surgeon by passing instruments, handling suction, and managing equipment.
• Maintain proper aseptic techniques and prevent contamination.
• Operate phacoemulsification machines, lasers, and microscopes during procedures.
• Handle intraoperative complications by promptly responding to surgeon’s needs.
• Monitor and record surgical timings, patient vitals, and procedural steps.

Post-Surgical Responsibilities:

• Clean and sterilize surgical tools and OT surfaces after each procedure.
• Dispose of biomedical waste according to hospital protocols.
• Assist in patient recovery room transfers and post-op monitoring.
• Maintain surgical inventory and restock required items for upcoming surgeries.
• Ensure compliance with hospital and NABH (National Accreditation Board for Hospitals) guidelines.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Degree/Diploma: Diploma in OT Technology (DOTT) / B.Sc. in OT Technology from a recognized institution.
• Certification: Specialized training in ophthalmic surgery assistance is preferred.
• Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of experience in an eye surgery OT setting.
• Skills: Strong understanding of ophthalmic surgical procedures, equipment handling, sterilization techniques, and OT safety protocols.
