Roles and Responsibilities
Job Purpose
To develop strategies to maintain equilibrium between the denominator growth vs numerator affordability with an objective of maximizing product.
Making policy frame works and operating guidelines for effective delivery of credit underwriting standards.
Formalizing and reviewing the central and state government schemes basis which the policy dispensation objective is achieved.
Continuously track the scheme/ loan portfolio for any negative trends and engage with all stakeholders (cross function) on the impact of the same and corrective action required.
Identify processes for greater efficiency in risk management and credit delivery and to drive process team to implement the solutions for the same.
To track each government schemes and fund allocation, claim processing or subsidies and forecast its related impact on the portfolio.
Training and building skill sets in the line underwriting team for understanding the each scheme and its objective for maximizing the quality of due diligence and coverage.
Regular networking with government officials, other financial institutions, fintechs and industry opinion makers, with an ear to ground approach, towards changing market scenario and behaviors.
Drive IT/ BPRG team to automate the policy rules through Business Rule engine for effective implementation of policies to track through the door population on new policy changes.
Identification of new scheme /segment and structure policies
Identifying the new scheme /segments according to the business need and then formulating the policy structure for roll outs.
See through the economic changes affecting the portfolio quality and put preventive course of action well in advance.
Policies – Detailing the critical eligible requirement as prescribed in the scheme documents for the acquisition and special customization in terms of delivery process
Internal benchmarking on acceptable loss rates in light of the other products while keeping overall objective of the bank at a broader level for government business.
Ensuring Policies are designed to capture the right schemes in different market /segment and will help in meeting the stated business prospect ( as planned during the start of the year ) within the overall Loss rates as planned / defined for the product.
Influencing Strategies – Influence the product, underwriting, RIC and collection strategies for each product.
Portfolio monitoring /management/Budget
Effective implementation of Delinquency triggers in terms of stoppage of any deviation and incremental disbursement.
Monitoring chq bounce trends and impact on the early delinquency along with budgeted NCL
Identify/devise key metrics and performance indicators to track movements in the portfolio. Identify the changes in trend and take preventive actions to ensure portfolio quality is maintained.
Engage himself with the Senior Regional Team members at Line (Sales + Credit + Collection + RIC) and drive the Portfolio Quality Management (PQM) projects for the locations / segments / schemes having high delinquency.
Preparing Loss budgets for the Government schemes/product with high level engagement with Collection / Business / Analytics and monitor the bounce rates for each of the segments / vintage to remain within the budgeted numbers.
TTD monitoring
Closely monitor the ‘Through the door’ population – in order to assess the ground realities and identify the change in the population distribution – discussion and implementation of corrective action
Influencing the business decision with respect to tactical items / schemes and close them at their level
Providing extensive guidance and support to the team members in terms of correct understanding of latest policy updates /schemes/ guidelines / clarifications / waivers and ensuring that the necessary checks are implemented.
Keeping track of schemes applicable for respective business and act immediately with revised strategy to avoid loss / enhance business within the defined risk parameters.
Scalability
Examine each & every process and policy on a continuous basis to ensure that the right set of risk parameters as relevant to the expected scale of biz are focused upon.
Best risk management practices across the industry as relevant to the product and lifecycle to be examined for homologation to the Indian Business environment.
Identify the areas where automating can be done to achieve the standardization in underwriting
Engagement with all stakeholders
Create an atmosphere where the product specific escalations / directions are closed at his end and the solutions are in the best interest of the bank and have concurrence across all business verticals
Engage himself in defining / approve appropriate “Approval authority” to Line team members according to their performance
Ensuring cross functional buying for exit list and build strategy for along with collections and business to ensure smooth exit of these accounts
Audit & Compliance
Cater to audit queries and ensure accurate flow of information to their satisfaction
Audit findings – to take corrective action basis the observations made.
RBI Teams – On site – off-site requirements.
Responses from various IBA/ Customer complaints/ Regulatory escalations / MSMEs dept to be handled

Qualified C.A. or MBA with BE
Key Skills
Banking Product & Process Knowledge
Experience in Business Intelligence Tools
Knowledge of Competition & Current trends in Banking / financial Industry.
Excellent Communication Skills
Experience Required
Familiar with the understanding of working in the policy role with min 5 year and underwriting experience of atleast 3-5 years.Overall experience of 8-10 years in managing the credit and risk of the Retail and SME segment.
