Position Summary

The Model Based Design and Hardware-in-Loop engineer will develop modelling and simulations of electric drives and motors and incorporate into HIL systems and develop test bench model and script platform for automation objectives. The MBD firmware to be tested, which will be model based design from Matlab modelling and simulations and to be validated using HIL.

Major responsibilities include

Multiple areas centered around electric drives and motors including modelling and simulation, controls, finite element analysis, HIL simulation and validation etc.

Hardware design of HIL testbeds for drives testing.

Understand drive motor control algorithm for various motor types.

Develop test automation environment and front end UI using MATLAB App Designer.

Develop test bench centered around real-time testing using Speedgoat.

Develop script platform for automation objectives.

Author test cases for firmware and implement in test bench.

Deploy automated batch testing to iteratively validate firmware running on target controller.

Maintain a high level of technical knowledge in the areas of electric drives to maximize productivity, quality and drive business growth.

Author lab test plans, conduct testing, analyze and interpret results, and execute design updates based on the test results.

Document auto validation testing via design manual.

Write clear technical reports and present results in formal and informal environments.

Maintain/develop software tools to improve development, testing, and trouble shooting.

Support development of qualification test standards for power electronics. Experience Moderate to expert level MATLAB user. App Designer experience is a plus.

Experience in power electronic based simulation test benches, test firmware features via CHIL, automated and batch testing, author pass/fail evaluation, generate reports.

Experience in MATLAB MBD and auto-code generation workflows for MCUs and FPGAs – V-cycle for MBD.

Experience in Power Electronics system modelling using MATLAB.

Experience in MATLAB Toolboxes – Stateflow, Fixed Point Designer, E-Coder, HDL Coder, Simscape, Simulink Realtime.

Experience in communication protocols is a plus – SPI, I2C, UART, JTAG, MODBUS, TCP/IP etc.,

Experience with HIL based platforms such as Opal-RT, Speedgoat, RTDS. Speedgoat experience preferred.

Skills and Education

Bachler’s or Masters Degree in Electrical/Electronics/Power Electronics and relevant streams with consistent track record.

7 to 9 of Experience in Model based design and development using MATLAB.

Firm grasp of engineering fundamentals.

Self-motivated, willing to take initiative, able to function effectively in independent and team based situations.

Ability to work in a laboratory environment for extended duration, coordinate testing with lab staff and reviewing results.

Must be adept at report writing and presenting technical information to a wide audience.

Strong written and oral communication skills required with good interpersonal skills, able to express concepts and ideas with clarity.
