Role: Head Sustainability & CSR

Location: Bangalore

The Head of Sustainability & CSR is responsible for Shaping and Delivering the UBL’s Sustainability agenda by crafting goals, strategies, and initiatives that align with and support the UBL’s business strategies aligned to HEINEKEN’s global Brew a Better World (BaBW) commitments. In summary:

• Responsible for the development of UBL’s Sustainability Strategy, including collaboration and coordination of functional BaBW responsibilities and ensuring sustainability principles are embedded in all that we do
• Responsible for external and internal stakeholder communications regarding sustainability
• Responsible for strategy and implementation of partnerships for progress (community/responsibility)
• The position is based in Bengaluru.

Key Responsibilities

• Jointly develop and oversee the delivery of a clear, prioritised, and funded roadmap (in coordination/collaboration with relevant functions and internal stakeholders) for each of the three BBW pillars, as well as an overarching strategy to determine sustainability principles, Governance, and measurement for UB.
• Work with Head of Communications and Head of Public Affairs to identify opportunities for corporate and brands to demonstrate sustainability and responsibility and ensure alignment with broader sustainability strategy.
• Provide timely and relevant advice and thought leadership to the business regarding sustainability matters.
• Develop an annual sustainability report (including microsite) per SEBI requirements, including case studies. Deliver a comprehensive, circular stakeholder engagement program (in consultation with the Chief of Corporate Affairs, Head of Communications, and Head of Public Affairs on media and Government) to communicate achievements and objectives creatively that gains cut through.
• Deliver HEINEKEN reporting requirements on Power BI.
• Work with CA colleagues to develop stakeholder engagement plans and messaging to bring UB’s BaBW story to life for internal and external stakeholders
• Engage with and support UB’s partners, customers, and suppliers in their sustainability efforts
• Develop relevant relationships with academia, think-tanks, the business community, NGOs and other stakeholders in FMCG/Sustainability sector
• Work closely with CA colleagues to ensure opportunities are maximised to position UB and its brands as leading in sustainability both internally and externally.
• Peer review of comms collateral developed by Comms as necessary.
• Develop 2030 and short-term objectives and roadmaps in these three areas of BaBW. This requires you to work cross-functionally.
• Includes identifying relevant partners and managing community sponsorships through the company and/or its brands.
• Develop strategies and programmes that align local priorities with the focus areas of the UBL’s broader Corporate Responsibility agenda in the Water, Women Entrepreneurship and Responsible Consumption pillars.
• Proactively research and identify opportunities and needs (data, programming) and develop relationships and programs, within the purview of pillars, with non-profit and NGO partners to address them coherently with the broader strategy.
• Manage and evolve the work of the company’s flagship programmes.
• Conduct effective due diligence and risk analysis, leveraging the broader company and Lines of Businesses, to ensure that the company’s resources and reputations are protected
• Work closely with the Brewery Heads to develop and present strong proposals ensuring due processes
• Be the primary person responsible for CSR compliance of company’s activities across India.
• Stay abreast of CSR regulations and guidelines and work closely with the legal and compliance teams to determine the applicability and impact of these on UBL.
• Keep senior stakeholders in CSR and business updated of developments and seek their guidance as required.
• Work closely with finance to determine CSR obligations and plan the portfolio and grant payments across different legal entities to ensure compliance.
• Interface with regulators and auditors on all matters pertaining to CSR compliance.

Skills and Experience

• A minimum of 10 years of experience in economic inclusion programs with extensive experience in India and a preference for that being in areas of Water, Environment, Women Entrepreneurship and RCA.
• Experience working in non-profit, corporate and policy engagement; understanding of grant-making and ability to track record and assess capacity of not for profit organisations.
• A strong understanding of CSR requirements in India, preferably in the development/Water sector.
• Demonstrated ability to think critically and strategically about program design and implementation and to develop practical solutions
• Ability to engage with internal and external stakeholders at all levels and on complex issues, from field workers to senior civil servants and/or corporate/business leaders
• Experience of engaging with Government and regulators.
• Self-motivated and ability to work both in a team as well as in independent context
• Excellent writing, communications and project management skills
• Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and ability to prioritise
• Capable of working under pressure and against tight deadlines
• Track record on developing and delivering work which has yielded demonstrable social impact
