About URJA Trust

URJA Trust is a Mumbai based grassroots non-profit NGO working with homeless young women (and in certain cases their children), between the ages of 18-30 years, who have been forced to leave their houses, or have chosen to leave their houses due to a variety of reasons including a desire to improve their circumstances and lead a life of their own choice, to escape poverty, violence (mental, physical, emotional, sexual), dysfunctional families, discrimination faced by them or their community.

URJA works to provide safe and empowering spaces to these women, where they can not only heal from the violence they have faced but also be empowered enough to move ahead to lead their lives with dignity and free of violence. Our interventions are aimed at their holistic development, focussing on their health and wellbeing (physical, mental, emotional and sexual), education and livelihood options, and ensuring their access to civil and political rights, and other social entitlements as the citizens of the country. In order to achieve this we believe that the transformation cannot be limited to individuals but needs to pervade into the system as well for a just, equitable and compassionate society where young women pursue their lives with freedom and dignity.

Role description

Book-keeping Related : –

• To make and maintain payments and receipts as necessary for the transactions and recording them in accounting software (Tally) and journal entries as appropriate as per standard procedures in a timely manner.

• Maintain financial MIS for the organization

• Support in raising invoices to various parties for the services rendered and collecting cheques against the invoices.

• Ensure to collect vouchers with supporting bills from centres and matching with payment statements.

• To verify, manage and maintain cash flows, disbursed and reimbursement for all programs budget and account for it

• Prepare and Support in maintaining cheque and cash vouchers along with supporting bills in head office and in various centres.

Banking : –

• To manage all bank transactions with respect to deposits and withdrawals with supporting approvals and to prepare bank reconciliations payable and receivable statement periodically as per practice

• Deposit cheque, do NEFT, RTGS as and when required, if need be visit the bank and get the work done.

• Get the signing of cheques from authorized signatories and ensure timely deposited in staff’s account or courier to vendors etc.

Budgeting and Reporting

• Preparation of management reports for review of Financial Performance

• Project-related – Budget preparation and assisting program team for the same

• Track the fund request against utilization of funds over a period; highlight issues pertaining to variance to accounts and Prepare variance report with narratives.

• Analyze financial information, summarize financial status and preparation of utilization certificates as per Donor/program requirements

• Produce error-free accounting report, present their results and financials status regularly with the team and management

• Participate in financial standards setting and in forecast process

Compliance

• Ensure all compliance with legal payments such as TDS, Provident Fund, Professional Tax and Service Tax as applicable are paid in time and the reports pertaining to them are submitted on time.

• To handle finance-related queries raised by internal and external parties

• Ensure outlined procedures in the Finance Policy are adhered to while making any payments (or) receiving funds.

Audit

• Manage and handle the ongoing communication with appointed Auditor’s office and build rapport.

• Coordinate periodic audit visits done by auditor’s office and provide them with necessary information, documentation as necessary for completion of a timely audit.

• To finalize books of accounts and handle audits related concerns

• To close accounts on monthly/quarterly basis with support of team members

Other

• Support in any other work related to the finance, admin of the organization.

• To provide support to all departments

• To perform any other ancillary task as directed by the Senior Manager

Education & other required qualifications:

• Post graduation in commerce background

• Two to three years of work experience as an accountant

• Experience in development sector is preferred

• Proficient in Tally and Advanced Excel

• Attention to detail, highly organized and efficient

• Ability to handle multiple tasks and can adapt to changing priorities

• Knowledge for handling statutory compliances in relation to Income Tax, PF, PT, Companies Act (CSR Rules)

• Knowledge of FCRA and Maharashtra Trust Act
