Job Title Intern – Flood Model developmentOverview/SummaryAon Impact Forecasting (IF), is looking for two interns to be a part of the flood model development team working on building next generation of catastrophe models and enhance existing ones. This is a full-time position for a duration of six months located in Bangalore, India focusing on development of probabilistic flood models in the Asia Pacific region. The position will provide the individual an opportunity to get an overall understanding of the catastrophe modelling framework and insights into the insurance and reinsurance industry.Detailed JobResponsibilitiesThe individual will be working on challenging problems such as: • Probabilistic flood hazard generation using TUFLOW.• Evaluation of past flood events using satellite products. • Calibration and validation of hydrological modelling.• Data preprocessing of different hydrometeorological variables and statistical analysis. • GIS automations using inhouse tools as well as opensource platforms.• Analysis of large-scale atmospheric datasets.• Assist in other model development tasks as needed such as documentation and client presentations. Role-specific Technical Skills and Knowledge (including any educational or degree requirements, years of prior work experience, etc.)• ME., MTech., MSc. or Ph.D. in Hydrology/Hydraulics/Earth Sciences/Remote sensing (or other related engineering disciplines)• Strong understanding of hydrological processes. • Ability to work on large scale Hydrological and Meteorological datasets• Should be proficient in ArcGIS/QGIS, • Comfortable in programming with R/Python• Excellent Verbal and Written Communication skills• Proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint• Excellent skills in oral and written communication• Capability to work in a team effectively and respect teamwork environment.
