All Contracts Team personnel are part of a global contracting function within the Global Indirect Procurement (GIP) organization. The execution of the role, and the primary contracting responsibilities, depend on the Category or Regional area assigned. In general, all Contracts Team personnel must be able to handle any contract questions and requirements that come to them regardless of Region or Category. The successful Contracts Team member will work independently with their respective stakeholders and Category Managers meeting all required statistics and objectives.
Contracts Team:
Negotiators:
Contract Team members are accountable for the terms and conditions of all strategic supplier relationships. In this capacity, Contracts Team members are solely responsible for 1) the development of terms and conditions negotiation plans, 2) leading terms and conditions negotiations, 3) interfacing with third party legal departments on contract interpretations and negotiations, 4) analyzing, mitigating, and communicating risk appropriately to the business unit decision makers.
Subject Matter Expert (SME):
Contract Team members will be given a subject to focus on and will work directly with the assigned SME to bring industry updates, new risk mitigation positions, compliance, and training to GIP Category professionals.
Strategic Projects :
Contract Team members may be asked to assist with strategic projects. Having a solid foundation of the following is critical: cause and effect thinking, ability to prepare and deliver materials, lead complex negotiations, lead or take part in strategy sessions.
Drafting:
Contracts Team members are accountable for the development of customized and simplified contract templates which may require hand’s-on contracts drafting and negotiations. The successful Contracts Team member will have good use of contract terminology and how clauses work together to ensure compliance to HP policies and principles.
Presentations :
Contracts Team members must be able to proficiently express ideas, build credible presentations and other materials and deliver to all levels of HP or third parties both verbally, and in writing.
Contracts Training:
Contracts Team members will be asked to work independently to provide training and mentoring to Category teams, stakeholders, and suppliers. Creation of training materials and the ability to speak well to small or large groups is an important factor.
Substantive Knowledge:
Expertise in identifying risk positions and the correlating contract terms
Identification of issues that create risk for HP
Drafting of tailored contracts and contract terms solutions
Application of cause and effect thinking
Provide leadership in emerging contract areas
Recommended Experience and Qualifications
Bachelor’s (undergraduate) or Master’s (graduate) degree or equivalent experience
Comprehensive understanding of contracts
Strong capacity for evaluating supplier pushback and developing solutions
Extensive experience planning for and coordinating complex negotiations involving contract terms and conditions
Demonstrated problem-solving ability
Strong teamwork and partnering skills/relationship building
