Responsibilities

• Advising the company and senior management on a broad range of legal, regulatory and compliance matters, including identifying areas of risk, providing guidance, and making suggestions for improvement

• Work closely with all company departments, investors, stakeholders, clients, and staff to ensure the legality of all company actions and transactions

• Represent the company in any legal forum or negotiation

• Advise on contract status, legal implications, possible risks, and any legal liability that may be faced

• Work on business initiated programmes to bring them to fruition

• Doing the necessary research to anticipate any unique or unforeseen legal issues that may have

• an impact on the company, its clients, its staff, or its operations

• Monitoring and interpreting the various laws, regulations, contractual obligations and industry best practices relating to insurance brokerage operations and our regional expansion

• Working with external counsel for legal advisory

• Ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and industry best practices by developing and reviewing internal legal, compliance, and ethics policies

• Drafting, negotiating, reviewing, and interpreting agreements including financial offerings,M&A, nondisclosure agreements, licensing agreements, service agreements and other partner and vendor agreements, communicating and negotiating with external parties

• Ensuring our compliance framework falls beyond minimum standard, and planning and executing routine compliance self-assessment processes

• Review for gaps in compliance requirements, draft and implement appropriate policies and procedures.

• Conduct internal audits

• Provide advice on employment and labor matters

• Deliver stand up training on compliance, policies and latest regulatory updates

Requirements

• A good law degree from a reputable university with experience in Corporate Law

• Minimum 15 years relevant experience, either as in-house Counsel or practising corporate law in an established law firm

• Prior experience working in MNCs and emerging markets will be an advantage

• Strong contract negotiation and drafting skills

• Possess strong presentation, communications and interpersonal skill

• Meticulous individual with a strong sense of responsibility and initiative.

• Strict adherence to time and set deadlines

• Ability to establish and maintain relationships with key personalities within the company and with its stakeholders

• Capacity to work independently
